There is a large car park to the south of the lake, to the left of the D13b coming from Kruth or near the 'Parc Arbre Aventure'. The start of the trail on the map is located at thissecond car park.
(S/E) From the car park, walk past the 'Parc Arbre Aventure' reception via the pedestrian path. Turn right between the Auberge du Lac and the lake shore.
At the sign indicating the start of the 'Schlossberg trail', take the path that climbs to the left along the Parc Arbre Aventure. Continue climbing, then stay on the path that branches off to the left at the crossroads (not visible on the IGN map). You will arrive at a viewpoint overlooking the castle.
(1) Stay on the path that descends into a ditch and immediately climbs back up towards the castle entrance. Turn your back on the barbican to enter the castle through the tunnel carved into the rock. The tour continues by following the educational signs on the site. After the second 'room', climb directly up the small hill on the left. Cross the hill to reach the viewpoint overlooking the valley to the south of the site.
(2) After the viewpoint, turn your back on the view of the valley and go to the next information boards below the ruins. They depict the former seigneurial dwellings. Climb back up the site, leaving the ruins on your right. Ignore the sign indicating the return route and take a path that climbs a little further to the right of the hill. Once at the top, turn right to reach the last two signs. Descend to the last viewpoint on the Schlossberg. Be careful not to get too close to the edge and stay on the path!
Turn around and climb back up the hill overlooking the Schlossberg. Then take the steps down to the right to return to the lake shore.
(3) Take a look at the lake dam, which can be seen from the promontory. Then return to the road and walk along the lake on the left until you reach the starting point (S/E).
