Access: To park in Chaumont-sur-Loire, take the small road that runs closest to the Loire, below the village. There is a small car park a little to the west of the church, but when it is busy, do as everyone else does and park anywhere along the banks of the Loire.
(S/E) Facing the Loire, turn right onto the small road. Follow the red and white markings ofthe GR®3and the "Loire à vélo" markings. Go under the bridge to arrive opposite the campsite.
(1) Continue straight ahead, passing the campsite on your left. The path runs between woods on the right and a floodplain on the left.
(2) Leave theGR® markings, which turn right, and continue straight ahead on the Loire à Vélo route.
(3) The path approaches the Loire. Continue straight ahead.
(4) You will rejoin theGR®3trail markers coming from the right. Continue straight ahead on the cycle path.
(5) Shortly afterwards, the trail leads to the banks of the Beuvron. Continue straight ahead. The trail heads due east and turns into a beautiful tree-lined path that leads to the village of Candé-sur-Beuvron.
(6) Turn around and retrace your steps until you reach the intersection where theGR® trail branches off to the left.
(4) Follow theGR® markings on the left to reach the D751. Cross (with caution) and take the path opposite that leads up into the woods. Notice the magnificent sequoia tree on the left, near the ruins of a house. Continue straight ahead, heading south, along a beautiful sunken path and then a wide avenue. TheGR® markings become very discreet.
(7) You will come to a large field. Turn right and walk along the edge of the forest. Further on, the path first turns right then left at a right angle.
(8) Just after this bend, look for a gas pipe marker post in the field on the left. Leave the edge of the forest and take the path that leads to this marker, pass it and continue straight ahead. Further on, the path turns left.
(9) Shortly afterwards, look for aGR® marker and a yellow marker on the ground and turn onto the next path on the right and towards the back. Continue along this path, which first turns left then right, and leads to a small tarmac road in the hamlet of La Doublinière. Continue straight ahead for a few metres until you reach the crossroads.
(10) Leave theGR® markings and turn left onto the road. Further on, at the first houses of the hamlet of La Rable on the left-hand side of the road, turn onto a wide path on the right. Continue straight ahead, heading west. Further on, the path joins theGR® de Pays (GRP®) "De châteaux en châteaux" (From castle to castle) which arrives from the left, but this is not visible as there are no markings. However, shortly afterwards, look for a red and yellow (GRP®) marking on an electricity pole.
(11) Continue straight ahead to reach a section of tarmac road.
(12) At the crossroads just after, take the road on the left and then left again at the next crossroads, following theGRP® markings. The road turns right and leads to the D114. Continue on the right, on the pavement.
(13) Further on, when this road turns right, continue straight ahead (GRP® markings) onto a small road that quickly veers left. Walk past the school and sports fields and note the façade of the Château de Chaumont on the right, at the end of the park. Pass the entrance to the Domaine de Chaumont.
(14) Immediately afterwards, turn right onto the road. Continue north, below the stables and then the château, where theGRP® markings give way to theGR®3markings. You will arrive at the quay.
(15) Cross the D751 (take care) then leave theGR® markings and turn left towards a ramp leading down to the port. Go down and then turn right at the hairpin bend.
(16) Further on, at the end of the small port, go up the small road that runs alongside the Loire to soon find the small car park on the right (S/E).
