Description of the walk

Park at the Champ de Mars, a square shaded by plane trees at the entrance to the village.

(S/E) Cross the old castle bridge and follow the path uphill. At the cross, leave the path leading to the castle on your left and turn right to reach a crossroads of paths.

(1) Turn right towards the hills of Versailles. View of the château, the village and the surrounding area. You’ll reach a crossroads by an old oak tree.

(2) Continue straight ahead, ignoring the path on the right which leads down towards the village. Climb steeply towards the Thibaud Hil cross to reach the Chapel of Montaut.

(3) Turn left and head uphill along the tarmac road to reach the entrance to the hamlet of Montaut.

(4) Carry on straight ahead along the path to descend, reaching a barn by the Ruisseau de Vaquemorte.

(5) Turn left onto the track and head towards a turning area.

(6) Follow the path across the stream and continue along the right bank through the woods, passing a grassy path, until you reach Serni from above.

(7) Retrace your steps to return to the junction at the turning area.

(6) Follow the same track back in the opposite direction as far as the barn you passed on the way out.

(5) Continue straight on along the tarmac road to reach the lake at Moulin de Bouydou.

(9) Carry on along this road to return to the Champ de Mars car park (S/E).

We’ve just been on this walk but didn’t go any further than point 4 (i.e. before crossing the stream on the left) because there was a Yellow Cross on a tree along that path and no path to the left. So we didn’t see that section. Perhaps it’s been cut off? Is this route still walkable?
We’re thinking of doing it in reverse from the chapel to try and find that section. It’s a shame because it’s a lovely walk

Hello, a lovely route through the countryside with plenty of shade on the first half. The final stretch after the lake, along the road, is a bit monotonous but there isn’t much traffic. Suitable for families.
