Departure from the Soing campsite.
(S/E) We turn right towards Soing and follow Rue de la Louvière, which climbs into the woods to a viewpoint. The panorama stretches over the Saône and the village of Soing.
(1) We continue along the mountain bike trail. It is a rather narrow path that runs along the ridge between the trees. Care must be taken, as there is little room to pass a bike travelling at full speed. The path leads to a calvary where we turn left to join the D291.
(2) We descend to the right at Charentenay and cross the village in a straight line.
(3) After the bridge, we turn left onto the towpath. We follow the canal and then, at the next lock, we cross the leat of the lock via the bridge and then another bridge over the Saône, turning right after each crossing.
(4) We follow the D27, which takes us to Ray-sur-Saône, dominated by its castle. The imposing fortress is perched on its rocky outcrop.
(5) At the village square, we continue straight ahead, following the main street that leads to the promontory. We take the opportunity to go up and take a look at the castle and walk around the park, entering through the large gate and exiting through a small gate.
(6) We walk back down to the village square.
(5) We turn left towards Vanne. The small road sheltered by the forest (Rue du Moulin, Rue de la Forge) takes us to the next village.
(7) At the entrance to Vanne, we take the path along the banks of the Saône, a gravel road on the right at the entrance to the village. It runs alongside a rather unusual garden, a bamboo grove. Then we turn left and follow a long, straight white gravel road between the meadows. The path runs alongside the Saône and finally a canal.
(8) Finally, next to the Moulin de Soing, we turn right to cross three bridges and return to the starting point (S/E).
