Storsteinen via Sherpatrappa

Park in the large car park (open land) on the edge of Solstrandvegen (after the small roundabout coming from Tromsø, on the left).

(S/E) Take the small paved path that climbs up next to the car park. Pass between a few houses and then take the perpendicular street (Anton Jakobsens veg) to the left for about 200 m. Then turn right towards the Fjellheisen cable car, which will take you directly to the summit: see § Practical information.

(1) Follow the cable car on your left and climb up a small path through the vegetation, which leads to the end of a dead-end road. Descend to the left, then climb up to the right along a path between the houses. Cross a street towards Sherpatrappa.

(2) A hairpin bend to the right marks the start of the 1,203 steps of Sherpatrappa. The climb is gentle and easy on this imposing stone staircase.

(3) At the top of the stairs, continue slightly to the right towards the cable car station. Pass under the Fjellstua café and follow the mountainside to the viewpoint at the barriers overlooking the car park and Tromsø opposite you!

(4) The return journey follows the same route as the outward journey to the car park (S/E).

You can also take the cable car (from (1)) for most of the ascent for NOK 290 for adults and NOK 155 for children (aged 6-17).

There is a café at the summit, called Fjellstua.
