From Perpignan, take the D66 dual carriageway to Ille-sur-Têt, then the two-lane road to Villefranche-de-Conflent. At the roundabout, take the D116 towards Vernet-les-Bains. Head south of the village, go round the potato-shaped roundabout to enter the village centre on the left. After 300 m, take the D27 on the right towards Fillols. After the cemetery, cross the Ruisseau de Saint-Vincent and park on the right, at the side of the track, just after the bridge.
(S/E) Follow the tarmac road towards Fillols for 300 m (there is little traffic on this stretch of road).
Yellow markings
(1) Turn right onto the Chemin Piétonnier du Canigou, which climbs up the tarmac road (signpost: Refuge de Bonaigue).
(2) Signposts (elevation 793m). Take the path on the right which climbs steadily in hairpin bends, crossing the Portella de Dalt.
(3) Elevation 1209m: make a round trip to the memorial to the resistance fighter Henri Barbusse, from where there is a beautiful view looking down. Continue along the path, heading east. A few more hairpin bends lead to a junction of paths. Up to this point, the view to the right is quite remarkable, with the jagged rock formations and the waterfalls of the Ruisseau de Saint Vincent.
(4) Signs point to the Refuge de Bonaigue straight ahead, and Pic Cogulló to the left (altitude 1434m). Head in this direction. The path continues to climb to reach a pass which is the highest point of the hike (altitude 1503m). The path descends slightly towards the north-east then climbs again to reach a grassy plateau.
(5) Ignore the first path leading uphill to the right (steel signpost). Continue for a few metres until you reach a sculpture and a signpost with a postbox attached (on the grassy clearing, a steel sculpture depicts Sardana dancers). A lovely spot for a snack (elevation 1494m). From here, it is possible to make a round trip to Pic de Cogulló, on which a flagpole can be seen (the Catalan flag, which usually flew there, must have been torn down by storms). Head down the path, heading north-east.
Observed in early April 2026: the first few metres, still covered in snow, are very slippery and you must proceed with caution. This is followed by a long, winding descent through a pine forest to reach another junction. Same observation: a few trees felled by the storm sometimes hinder progress.

(6) Directional signs. Ignore the path on the right marked Fillos. Take the path that heads left towards Coll de Juell instead. It climbs slightly but is very pleasant.
Yellow markings
(7) Coll de Juell (899m). Crossroads. Ignore the paths leading off to the left (Vernet-les-Bains, a possible shortcut to the car park) and to the right (Fillols). Continue straight ahead, climbing towards the Col de la Truja and then the Coll Vell (845m).
(8) Continue straight ahead along a series of ups and downs (known as the ‘rollercoaster’). Arrive at Coll de Sant Eusebi (elevation 795 m).
(9) Cross the tarmac road (Route de Fillols D27) and head straight on, then descend along this wide gravel path to arrive just before Corneilla-de-Conflent (elevation 621m).
(10) Take the track on the left, which climbs gently and steadily to reach the tarmac road to Fillols (D27). Turn right and follow it for about twenty metres.
(11) Head down to the right along the path which joins a track at thesecond hairpin bend. Continue along the stony track known as the “Chemin du Pont d’Angles” and, upon reaching the Ruisseau de Saint-Vincent, pass the footbridge crossing it and continue along the track, turning 90° to the left. Follow the stream up the right bank to reach the D27 road (elevation 710m) and the car park (S/E).
