Spessart Trail “Vorderspessartblick Horbach”

From the Gondelteich, the Spessart trail ‘Vorderspessartblick Horbach’ leads across open hills and quiet stream valleys around Horbach. Time and again, sweeping views open up over the Kinzig Valley, into the Wetterau and as far as the Vogelsberg. Along the way, the Krötenweiher, the near-natural Näßlichbach stream and the impressive Mariengrotte provide a variety of sights.

Description of the walk

From the car park at Gondelteich, the circular route leads across the open hilltops and slopes of the ridge east of Horbach. Along the way, sweeping views open up time and again over the Kinzig Valley, into the Wetterau and as far as the Vogelsberg. Passing the Krötenweiher and following the Krötenbach, the trail runs along the Waldrode high-altitude path over the summit of the Junkersberg.

Following the largely unspoilt Näßlichbach stream, the path continues to the impressive Mariengrotte. The route then follows narrow paths alongside the leat, above the Kneipp facility, back to the starting point.
