Description of the walk

The starting point is at Lac de Pelleautier. Park in the car park by the lake, near the beach and bar at La Motte Flottante campsite.
You can get to La Freissinouse and Pelleautier by bus from the Gap metropolitan area.

(S/E) Head north-west on the small road that climbs towards the Les Pons neighbourhood. Leave the road on your right and continue towards the hamlet, heading south-west. Climb up through the hamlet between the houses, following the main road to the crossroads (wooden signpost). Turn left onto the road that descends towards the south.
You can stop for a break at the Chapelle des Pons chapel on the right (picnic table). Then join the GR® Pays between Ceüse and Durance, marked in red and yellow, and continue south on the road.

(1) At the oratory, take the track that climbs to the right for about 100 metres, then leave it to follow a wooded path that climbs alongside a stream. You will arrive at a plateau with a reservoir at an altitude of 1107 metres.

(2) Continue on the GRP® to a forest road where you leave the GRP® which climbs to the right.

(3) Turn left onto this road, heading south, then south-west, and pass close to the Grotte des Maquisards.

(4) Continue left on the road that descends and then arrive on a tarmac road that descends towards the hamlets of Les Roses, Le Piémont de Céüse and Les Bonnets.

(5) At the crossroads in the hamlet, take the road on the left, heading east towards Les Bonnets and Banarde: do not take the roads that descend to the right or the one that climbs towards the spring, but continue towards Banarde by taking the PR® heading east.

(6) At the intersection, continue straight ahead on the path and do not turn right (descent south). Join the small road near the Casot farm and continue north-east to the hamlet of Les Rois. Continue along the road northwards until you reach an intersection.

(7) Follow the path heading due north until you reach a small tarmac road that continues in the same direction.

(8) At the crossroads, at an altitude of 1085 metres, leave the road that climbs to the left, then the one that descends to the right, and continue straight ahead.
At the next intersection, descend the road on the right towards the hamlet of Les Revioures.

(9) At the next junction, continue left, heading north, then slightly right at the next junction, heading north-east, towards Les Évaras and Les Gauthiers via the D319.

(10) Continue down the small D319 and, at the T-junction, turn left towards Les Ferrières and continue towards Les Pons, heading north, where you will join the GR® Pays between Ceüse and Durance and the oratory you passed on the way there.

(1) At the intersection just before the Chapelle des Pons, take the road that descends to the right for about a hundred metres.
Then follow the path below the houses to cut across towards the lake. Walk along the Motte Flottante campsite to the (S/E) beach car park.

Notes

Picnic table at the Chapelle des Pons (1) and via the detour to the Pelleautier orientation table (10).
Water is available at the campsite bar and via a detour to the fountain at the former Sigot nursery between (2) and (3).

This route mainly follows wide paths: a small tarmac road between (S/E) and (1), (6) and (7), (9) and (1) or a forest track between (3) and (5), (7) and (8). Only the 3 km climb between (1) and (3) is on a path through the woods.

(10) Alternative route to the Pelleautier orientation table via the small road that climbs left towards Aumie. It offers a superb panorama (with picnic table).

Worth a visit

(4) Grotte des Maquisards: in 1943, during the German occupation, this cave dug under a rock served as a refuge for about fifteen resistance fighters. Denounced, they were arrested on 29 November 1943 and only one managed to escape; the others died in deportation.

(1) Pons Chapel.

(10) Pelleautier orientation table.

(S/E) Lake Pelleautier (the floating mound): created on a former marsh by the construction of a dam during the extension of the Gap Canal. Its distinctive feature was the trembling mound or floating mound, a mass of peat and earth drifting at will on the marsh. When it dried out, the farmers would come and mow it and divide up the hay they had harvested. Today, for safety reasons, the mound has been moored. However, it remains a favourite spot for many species of birds. (source: Wikipedia).

Sorry that this route disappointed you. It mainly follows wide paths (small roads and forest tracks).
It is more suitable for those who want to avoid narrow paths or particular weather conditions.
But I'm glad you enjoyed the scenery, as the panoramic view is beautiful in good weather.

Extremely disappointed! For us, hiking is not done on asphalt! We walked more than 8 km on the road
3 km uphill in the woods, then about 3 km on a wide firebreak in the forest, then after the Grotte des Maquisards and its car park, the route ends on the road
Nevertheless, the scenery is magnificent and the cold drink we had on the terrace of the campsite bar by the lake on our return was very welcome, fortunately.
