Description of the walk

Departure in front of the small Saint-Pierre Chapel (parking available).

(S/E) Take the track (D17) that starts near the chapel and climbs towards the Col de Mounis.

(1) At the fork, continue towards the pass, ignoring the other paths.

(2) At the Col de Mounis, follow theGR® markings that climb towards the Sommet du Corbeau. The path follows the ridge, first through the woods and then across open meadows. The view towards Sisteron and the Monges massif is superb in good weather. Take care to admire it safely.

(3) Return to the pass.

(2) Follow theGR® trail down to the left towards Ravin de la Combe.

(4) TheGR® trail branches off to the left. The track that continues straight ahead allows you to shorten the route, provided it is not closed due to livestock, but theGR® circular route, mainly through the forest, is magnificent.

(5) At the intersection, climb to the right towards the Saint-Vincent caves, still on the GR®.

(6) When the path comes to a grassy embankment and the markings become less obvious, make a hairpin turn to the right and follow the beginning of the track that appears. You will find theGR® markings again a few metres further on.

(7) Be careful not to miss the point where theGR® branches off to the left and climbs quite steeply into the forest. Continue on the GR®.

(8) At the intersection, leave theGR® and head towards "Vieux Mélan". Stay on the Route Forestière du Désert, marked in yellow.

(9). At a crossroads located in a bend, take the path marked with a yellow cross, which starts on the right and leads into the forest. When the path begins to descend, it widens and, at the edge of the forest, simply descend through the meadows to reach the Chapelle Saint-Pierre and the starting point (S/E).

A very beautiful walk, but I recommend continuing along the ridge after the Sommet du Corbeau to the Sommet de Vaumuse. It's obviously longer (just under 2 hours return from Corbeau to Vaumuse), but the scenery is really nice along the entire ridge, and the view from the summit of Vaumuse is definitely worth the detour, with an almost 360° panorama and, as a bonus, a view to the south over the entire Durance Valley, the Verdon massif, Sainte-Victoire, the Luberon, etc..
The route is marked in yellow and is not difficult.
However, we returned by the same route we took on the way there, as we didn't have enough time to follow the circular trail on the way back. In total, it took a little over 4½ hours, walking at a good pace.

A very pleasant hike with an initial climb that we recommend doing before the sun gets too strong. The view from the top of Corbeau is impressive, with the Durance valley below.
The second part of the hike through the woods provides shelter from the heat.
Be careful not to slip on the final section leading back to the chapel.

A beautiful hike with magnificent scenery at the summit of Le Corbeau, less interesting in the old Melan section except for the forest.
We only encountered a few mountain bikers...

Beautiful hike - beautiful scenery - varied vegetation - we didn't meet anyone, which is a shame because the walk isn't difficult.

A beautiful hike, complementing the Brigands trail and Saint Vincent Cave.
There are a few difficulties with the signposting, particularly after the Col de Mounis towards Vieux Mélan... sometimes you have to improvise!!!
