Description of the walk

(S) Head to the MEM in the centre of the village, a short descent to cross the Bonorca stream. Begin the climb heading eastwards and reach the 268m contour line.

(1) Turn 90° south. Stay on this course until Capu San Petru, the day’s highest point (914m). To reach this point, you must negotiate a series of very tight hairpin bends. At the summit, a vast clearing opens up and, on the right, the path ascending from Marina de Porto (Ghineparu Pianu) joins

(2) Head eastwards and reach a crossroads of paths.

(3) Leave the path to the Corgola sheepfold on your left and take the one on the right instead. Follow a wide circular route that leads south-west to the Ravin de Vitrone.

(4) Continue south-west then south-east until you reach a crossroads of paths.

(5) Keep left on the MEM to go round the rocks of Capu d'Ota, finally reaching the base of the pylon overlooking Ota. Begin the final descent to reach Ota and the lodge, hotel and restaurant (E).

Notes

No water, no shelter.
Take care on the descent to the Pedua rocks, especially if it has rained recently, as this descent is tricky (stones, roots, leaves).

Worth a visit

A long stage with a significant elevation gain, but one that is very pleasant to walk.
The village of Ota is a little gem threatened by the large rock that looms over it, but this rock, firmly wedged in place, gives visitors pause for thought. How could such a rock have ended up there and remained there for centuries?

My little dog and I went on this hike.
No trouble following the route at all – a superb walk with stunning views.
However, my mobile phone gave up the ghost, so I had no way of contacting my family and friends. I didn’t meet anyone, so… be careful and, above all, take plenty of water.
I was glad to arrive in OTA so I could quench my thirst.
Enjoy the hike, everyone
