Leave your vehicle in the car park at the Maison Forestière, also known as the Maison des Espaces Naturels. Some of the paths used on this route are not shown on the IGN map.
From the car park, head to the Maison Forestière to find the start of the "official" Le Pic des Fleurides trail (information board), which follows this route exactly.
Volcano markings
(S/E) Take the trail that runs alongside the Maison Forestière, passing behind it. At the intersection of trails (start of the circular route), turn right, following the markings. Pass a sign for Coupe du versant du massif, then the signs for Marne and Basalte.
(1) At the T-junction, with a road nearby on the right, turn left. Further on, at the T-junction with a path, turn right.
(2) At the next T-junction, near the hamlet of Les Fournets, turn left. Further on, pass the Les Grès sign, then turn right onto a path.
(3) A hundred metres further on, turn left onto a path and climb steadily to reach Pic des Fleurides.
(4) There are orientation and geological information tables, but no view (and it's not because the trees have grown since the tables were installed, given the humourless sentence on one of the tables: "What you would see to the east, if it weren't for the trees..."). Continue along the path that descends to a forest lane and follow it to the right. You will arrive at a picnic area with numerous information panels.
(5) Take the path on the left at the Les roches sign, then turn onto another path on the left shortly afterwards. You will arrive at the intersection at the start of the circular route. Continue straight ahead on the section you already took on the way there to reach the Maison Forestière (S/E).
