Park in the square by Saint-Martin’s Church in Mavilly.
Note for the entire walk: small signs with a tree drawn on them mark the entire route.
(S/E) Take Rue Pagand and follow it to the end.
(1) Continue left onto Route de Nantoux until you reach the junction with a wide path.
(2) Turn left onto the dirt track, known as the Chemin du Tacot, and continue along this track which follows the Combe de Mandelot.
(3) A few dozen metres after a left-hand bend, a sign has been erected (in April 2026). It explains how to get to the largest service tree in France (14.8m tall, 4.5m in circumference, and over 400 years old!) which is hidden below a pasture. Go and see the service tree, then turn back to the sign. Continue along the path until you reach a tarmac road and follow it to the right until you reach the junction at the Ruisseau de la Combe.
(4) Keep left and follow theD23D towards Mandelot. In the centre of the hamlet, turn left onto Rue du Château, walk past the castle and under the bridge of the old railway line.
(5) Continue straight on until you reach the junction with the D23.
(6) Take a sharp right-hand bend, then do the same to the left about 300 m further on. Continue along the road until you find a path on the left, on the plateau.
(7) Take this path and, at the wayside shrine, keep to the left. Begin the descent towards Mavilly. This is quite steep and stony, and can be muddy depending on the weather; good footwear is essential. Turn right at the town hall to reach the church square (S/E).
