Park in the car park below the road from the fire station.

(S/F) Cross the D6 and go straight ahead to climb to the Croix des Mitanes.

(1) At the cross there are five possible directions. Take the road ahead, slightly to the right, that goes down into the valley.

(2) Leave the road on the left towards Le Flachon and turn right onto the paved road.
Pass by, on the right, the two paths that lead to Fontagneux, pass through the intersection with a cross and reach a fork.

(3) Turn left on Chemin de la Scierie, go up to the church, go behind it and continue to the junction at the stadium.

(4) Turn left on the road, head alongside the stadium and the cemetery.

(5) Cross the D65 to continue opposite in the direction of Marchizaud.

(6) At the last house, turn right on the road going up in the meadows behind the farm. Head back across the D65 and continue on the path that goes up through the field, fork left and continue to the road to La Thomassière.

(7) Turn right and cross La Thomassière.

(8) At the first junction, turn right and continue to the Dionnière junction (cross).

(9) Turn left down the road which becomes a path. At the fork just before the buildings, turn right and continue to the intersection located 50 m from the Bicouri Cross which is on the left.

(10) Follow through and across the path that climbs up to and into pastures. Go around the farm on the right onto the D65. Continue straight on the road and go back to the Hospital rest area.

(11) Take the first right after the farm. It leads you to Fontagneux.

(12) Pass by the farm and take the path opposite that heads off through the pastures. Meet back up with the outbound path in the valley and turn left.

Pass back through points (2) and (1) in succession to reach the car park (S/F).

A beautiful circular walk through the varied and undulating landscapes of this part of the Monts du Lyonnais, taking you through the pretty, shady valley of the Bâtie stream and along the Rontalon botanical trail. The route follows an old railroad track from the early twentieth century, before climbing up through a Mediterranean style forest and past some market gardens. End by visiting the medieval village of Rochefort where you can visit the remains of the keep and the chapel.

Very popular in summer, it is worth the detour to admire the panoramic view over the Alps and the summits of Mont Blanc, the Lyonnais mountains and the Giers valley, the Vercors massif and those of northern Vivarais. With a wealth of flowers in spring, you can gather bilberries in August and raspberries in September. Unless you choose to go ski touring or cross-country skiing here in winter.
