A classic in the Chaîne des Puys to admire Puy de Dôme and Le Puy de Pariou, amongst others.
Start from the car park of Les Goules (after La Fontaine du Berger - Orcines).
Follow the yellow markers (Circuit of Le Pariou).
At the first junction, continue straight ahead (rather than following the sign on the right which goes to the summit of Le Pariou) following the return path of the circuit of Puy de Pariou. On arriving at the foot of the stairs descending from Le Pariou go straight on in the direction of Le Puy de Dôme, ignoring the path to the Petit and Grand Suchet on your right.
Arriving at Le Traversin (possibilty of topping up with water at the fountain) go to the right, in the opposite direction to the path round Puy de Dôme, and take the GR.
On arrival at the Col de Ceyssat (drinking water) ascend towards Le Chemin des Muletiers.
Le Chemin des Muletiers takes you to the top of Puy de Dôme.
Walk past the station and by the railway line and go down the road.
Take the Chemin des Chèvres on the right. It consists of a wooden stairway.
At the bottom of the stairs, continue straight ahead, with Le Pariouon on view ahead.
When you arrive at Le Traversin, carry on along the return path, identical to the outward route.
Return to the car park of Les Goules.

When the weather's on your side magnificent views of the Puys de Dôme, Pariou de Côme and all their satellites.
To improve the steep climb of the Chemin des Muletiers, superb clear views of Sancy.
Just above Clermont-Ferrand, the inescapable climb to Puy-de-Dôme through the col de Ceyssat is a short but intense hike with an astonishing view over Clermont-Ferrand, the chaîne des Puys, paragliders and Millevaches.
Caution, it's a very popular walk so be sure to do it during week days for a bit of peace and quiet.
A short hike to climb two volcanoes with their typical open craters to delight amateur geologists and curious hikers. A beautiful view from the top of the Puy de Lassolas on over the Chaîne des Puys to the north and Monts Dore to the south.
A hiking trail in the Auvergne summer pastures, on a summit overlooking the spa resort of La Bourboule.
A circuit that forms a figure of 8 around Lac Chambon, with panoramic views of the lake and the Sancy range, the Valley of Chaudefour and a section through Murol via its castle.
The very secretive and beautiful Chaudefour valley is a classified natural site, closed up by the steep contours of a glacial cirque. Peaks, needles, plumbs are as many natural defences for an intact and preserved valley.
A trip to highest point of the Massif Central.
A wander among the underbrush along the Couze Pavin, from bank to bank, flowing in cascades.
