Rosthwaite to Wadendlath

Moderate circular walk to Watendlath tarn from Rosthwaite village. Watendlath tarn is a gorgeous little tarn in the middle of big summits. Great views the entire walk. Dog friendly.

Description of the walk

Start: Rosthwaite National Trust Car Park Grid ref. NY 257 148

(S/E) From the car park walk towards the main road B5289. At the road, turn left and after a couple of meters cross the road and turn right to take Howe Lane. Continue straight, cross the river Stonethwaite Beck and then take directly right on the path following the river. Continue on this path until seeing a path on the left hand side by Huddleston's shop wood (1.6 Km).

(1) Turn left (East) to go up Lingly End with Willygrass Gill on your right hand side. Continue on this path going up with the Gill on your right until reaching Dock Tarn (1.4 Km).

(2) Pass Dock Tarn (on your right) and continue straight on the path towards Great Crag (you can go up to Great Crag if you want). Continue straight (North) on the path always staying on the right path until the path bends left and arrives at Watendlath Tarn (2.3 Km).

(3) Once at Watendlath Tarn turn left (South-West) (Do not cross the bridge) to take the large rocky path on the other side of Bracken Plantation. Continue on this large path straight, ignoring all the side paths until reaching the bridge on Stonethwaite Gill. Cross the bridge and walk straight until the road. At the road turn left then cross the road at Rose Cottage level to find the car park. (S/E)
