Grange Fell, Watendlath and High lodore

Great circular walk going to Watendlath Tarn. This valley is not really popular. Dog friendly walk.

Description of the walk

Start: Small car park along the B5289, just after The Leathes Head Hotel, (CA12 5XA), free. Grid ref. NY 256 177

(S) At the parking, take right on the B5289 (toward Keswick). After a couple of meters, take right again on the footpath (behind the hotel). Continue straight on this path that bypass Grange Crags and goes up in the little wood.

(1) At an intersection of paths, take left (South-East) on the path going up in the little wood and continue straight (South) up until reaching a clearing.

(2) Good navigation skills are needed here as the path is not visible. Continue across the clearing towards Kings' How, then take slightly left (South-East) to walk towards Brund Fell.

(3) At Brund Fell, take the path on the left (East) towards Jopplety How, continue straight going down towards Jopplety How Moss and Black Waugh. Keep going down until reaching a main path on the shore of Watendlath Tarn. Good navigation skills are needed during this section as the path is not visible.

(4) Take left to follow the shore of Watendlath Tarn. At the end of the tarn continue straight on the path (North) following Watendlath Beck (it should be on your right hand side). Continue straight on this path until the end and see the path going either right or left.

(5) Take left (West) towards the bottom of Ladder Brow and continue straight across the little wood until reaching the B5289 road.

(6) Take left at the road (towards Rosthwaite) and continue straight until the parking and start. (E)
