Description of the walk

Park on Avenue Bellevue in the designated spaces. The starting point is on the uphill section of the avenue in front of the Azureva holiday centre.

(S/E) Walk up Avenue Bellevue, then when it branches off to the left, continue straight ahead for 20 metres to join the Sentier du Pué, which consists of tarmac-surfaced steps. Once at the top of this path on Chemin du Cannet, cross the road to join the Promenade Albert Camus, which leads uphill, and follow it for 50 metres.

(1) Turn left onto Avenue de la Concorde and continue uphill to the stop sign at the junction with Chemin du Cros. Cross the road and take the small footpath opposite, marked by two metal hoops in the ground to prevent access by two-wheeled vehicles. Walk past the Jardin des Oliviers and turn right at the Chapelle de la Pausa.

(2) Take the Chemin de Menton, marked by the walking signs near the Chapelle de la Pausa, and head towards the Château de Roquebrune. Walk past the Chapelle Saint-Roch.

(3) You must pass by the Millennium Olive Tree (a tree classified as ‘Remarquable de France’). Once you reach the edge of the village, cross Rue de la Fontaine then turn left downhill onto Rue de l’Église to head towards the village square. If you turn right onto Rue du Château, you can visit the castle (entrance fee applies).

(4) Arrive at the Place des Deux Frères for a breathtaking view. At the olive tree, walk downhill past the “Fraise & Chocolat” café for about 100 metres, then turn left onto Chemin de Sainte-Lucie. Start the descent via the steps, then continue straight on along Chemin sous le Murier until you reach the junction with the Chanoine Grana steps in front of No. 4.

(5) Walk down the Chanoine Grana steps to the Route de la Moyenne Corniche. Caution: crossing the road is difficult despite the pedestrian crossing, as cars drive fast and the road is on a bend. Take care. Cross at the pedestrian crossing and continue down the Escaliers de Corinthille to the finish. Turn right for the remaining 30 metres onto Avenue de la Côte d’Azur.

(6) Cross the road carefully to take Avenue Vilarem, a one-way uphill road that descends, and turn left onto the Massolin Steps, going all the way down through the underpass beneath the railway line to join the Massolin Coastal Path.

(7) Once you reach the Le Corbusier Cabin and Villa Eileen Gray, follow the hiking signs towards Carnolès Beach. Walk all the way round Cap Martin for about 3 km until you reach the Cap Martin car park.

(8) From the car park, continue along the promenade via the small path running parallel to the water’s edge between the road and the trees on Avenue Winston Churchill until you reach the roundabout.

(9) At the roundabout, turn right onto Promenade de la Mer until you reach the second roundabout, then continue straight on past it.

(10) Take the first street on the left, Avenue Hector Berlioz, until you reach the railway line, where an underpass allows you to cross.

(11) Turn right onto Avenue de Profondeville, then take the first left onto Avenue des Diables Bleus, where you can enjoy the market and the greengrocer’s for seasonal fruit and vegetables.

(12) At the greengrocer’s, walk 20 metres up on your left, then at the bakery, cross the road carefully to reach Avenue de la Lodola on the opposite side. You can follow the sign for La Poste.

(13) Once opposite the post office, turn left and walk up Avenue de la Lodola, then take the first right onto Chemin des Pins, which leads you back via some steps to your starting point (S/E).

No sandals; closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended for the descent down the stone steps between points (4) and (6)

Worth a visit

There are many remarkable listed monuments along the route. Once you arrive at Place des Deux Frères (4), you can visit the castle behind you (entrance fee applies) and enjoy a coffee and a treat at “Fraise & Chocolat”, where everything is homemade. Having breakfast on their terrace is rather pleasant and the atmosphere is very friendly.

Don’t miss the famous Millennium Olive Tree (3) or the Chapelle de la Pausa, whose interior can be viewed through a grille (2), and the Chapelle Saint-Roch along the way.
