Park in the large car park near the post office.
(S/E) From the car park, head south on Rue du Docteur Paul Peltier. Turn right onto Avenue Jean-Baptiste Rochambeaud, then left onto Rue Auguste Roux. Cross Avenue des Déportés et Fusillés, leaving the Renault dealership on your right, and turn onto Rue Édouard Benes.
(1) When you reach the double roundabout, take Rue Paul Morchain (formerly Route de Soubise, lined with plane trees).
Further on, pass Cap-Vert before arriving at Boulevard du Mille-Pattes. Caution: dangerous crossing!
(2) Immediately after crossing the boulevard, turn left onto Chemin de Charente, taking the wooden footbridge. A little further on, don't hesitate to make a detour to the bird observatory.
(3) The path passes under the viaduct. At the end of the path, take the road heading due east towards the transporter bridge. Before the first houses, take the path on the left. You will arrive at the foot of the transporter bridge (which you can cross). Continue along Chemin de la Charente (signposted "Corderie Royale").
(4) The path bends to the right at the equestrian centre to run as close as possible to the Charente. It passes alongside industrial buildings and leads to the dry docks (Hermione shipyard). The usual route takes the footbridges at the end of the dry docks and passes in front of the Rochefort Shipyard.
(5) It may be necessary to go around them from behind (on the town side). Following the Charente, you will come to the Corderie Royale and the beautiful Jardin des Retours. Walk along the 374 m length of the rope factory on the side facing the Charente, then pass between the hotel and the Charente. You will then arrive at the entrance to the marina.
(6) Cross the footbridge that marks the entrance to the marina and walk around it in an anti-clockwise direction (in succession: Quai le Moyne de Serigny, passage under Avenue William Ponty, Quai de la Louisiane, Quai de Tahiti, Quai du Tonkin, crossing Avenue William Ponty, Quai aux Vivres). Then head towards the Corderie Royale, on the west side. Cross the car park, then the Jardin des Retours. When you reach the south end of the Corderie, turn right onto the staircase that passes under a porch to reach the Jardin de la Marine. Continue straight ahead to reach Rue Pierre Toufaine.
(7) Turn left onto this street. Walk past the covered market.
(8) Immediately afterwards, turn right onto Avenue Lafayette. Then take thethird street on the right (Rue de la République). This will take you to Place Colbert.
(9) Cross diagonally to reach Rue Audry de Puyravault, which will take you back to the starting point (S/E).
