(S) Take the difficult path to the south-east, which climbs rapidly. Keep the Lac Majeur on your right, then the Lac Gelé de Saboredo. The second is a little tricky with a sloping path and, above all, a vertical passage of about 8 m, fortunately equipped with ropes. Reach the Col du Lac Gelé: beautiful view of the two valleys to the east and west.
(1) Continue to the right and climb south towards the Col d'Amitges. You will reach a fork in the trail.
(2) Take the left-hand trail to reach the summit of Pic d'Amitges (2,849 m).
(3) Descend via the same trail, then turn right to climb up a more rugged trail, which requires a bit of scrambling, to the summit of Pic d'Amitges bis (2,837 m). Caution advised here for those prone to vertigo
(4) Return to the trail at the previous crossroads and turn right.
(2) Continue straight ahead to quickly reach the Col d'Amitges.
(5) Descend to the left towards the south-east along a path, then over scree and even a snowfield, depending on the time of year. Stay on this path for a long time. It slopes further to the right and heads south before reaching the Estany Gran d'Amitges.
(6) Cross the stream that connects the two lakes, then turn left to continue the descent to the Refuge d'Amitges.
(7) Continue downhill on the forest road from Espot to San Maurici.
(8) Walk along the Estany de la Bassa, then join the GR®11 at the Estanyola de Ratera.
(9) Descend to the left on this GR® trail, following the Estany de Ratera, and arrive above the Estany de Sant Maurici. Take a short detour to the right to reach the old barracks.
(10) Return to the trail and take it to the right to descend to the Collado dyke.
(11) Continue downhill, following the GR® 11 to the Ernest Mallafré Refuge, today's stop (E).
