Rambling around Spain - Muñalba, 3 Provincias, Camperón & Urbión (Soria)

A circular route starting and finishing at the car park of Castroviejo. Drive up from Duruelo de la Sierra (or walk if you want to split the route into two days).
This route links several prominent summits, with sweeping ridge views, dramatic rocky landscapes, and the source of the Duero River in a wild and scenic setting.

Description of the walk

Start: car park of Castroviejo

(S/E) Head northwest along the track to pick up a path leading off north through the pine forest.

(1) Once past the Pino del Cardenal (2), it's fairly straightforward to the summit of the Pico Muñalba.

(3) From there, follow the ridge walk around to the east to reach the summit of the Pico las Tres Provincias (Soria meets La Rioja and Burgos). This whole range divides the water basins of the river Duerro and the river Ebro.

(4) Continue southeast to reach the Collado El Entradero (5) and then climb back up to the Picacho del Camperón.

(6) Bear south to pass the Collado Tablas de la Ley (7) to reach Peñas Claras.

(8) Now heading east to reach the summit of the Urbión.

(9) The descent follows the river Duero from its source (10), veering off to the west before winding back to the car park. There's an interesting metal catwalk in the recreational area.(S/E)
