This circular route runs alongside part of Lake Pannecière before climbing up to the ridges, offering fine views of the Morvan hills, before descending through woodland to the part of the lake where the Yonne flows into it. It passes close to a developed rocky outcrop offering superb views of Château-Chinon and the Morvan hills.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park alongside the D230.

(S/E): Cross the bridge and turn right onto the RD161 towards Montigny-en-Morvan. Follow this road along the lake to the next junction.

(1) Turn left onto the C3 road, which climbs towards Vissingy for about 400 m, until you reach a three-way junction.

(2) Follow the tarmac cul-de-sac that climbs up to your left. The tarmac road turns into a dirt forest track. Continue straight on until you reach the D230.

(3) Cross the road , taking care of traffic, and take the dirt track leading uphill opposite. Follow this track for about 500 m until you reach a three-way junction.

(4) Take the path leading uphill to the right. Follow this path for about 300 m until it meets a path running perpendicular to it.

(5) Turn right onto this new track. Follow this track straight on; it eventually leads back down to the D230 at the entrance to the hamlet of Remoillon.

(6) Turn left and follow the road. Pass through Remoillon and continue along the road which climbs up to a junction where there is a cross and a Stop sign.

(7) Turn left and follow the forest track which climbs up through the trees. Pass a chalet on your left and continue straight on until you reach a junction with several paths.

(8) Take the flat forest track on the right. This track then makes a first turn left then right and descends steeply. Follow it until you reach the bottom, not far from a tarmac road.

(9) At the bottom of the path, turn left and follow the new forest path. Pass a hunting lodge and continue to a junction.

(10) Go straight on until you reach a junction with a path that descends steeply to the right.

(11) Follow it round the bends to a footbridge. Cross over and follow the path uphill to a tarmac road (D12) in Ardilly.

(12) Turn left onto this tarmac road and follow it along the lake. At Les Moulins, turn left to return to the car park (S/E).

I was very disappointed; it wasn’t particularly interesting – it’s the sort of walk where you’re just walking for the sake of it, half on tarmac and half on very wide paths, some of which are completely rutted and offer little shade. I looked for the headland but couldn’t find it, even though I followed the instructions at point 8 right down to the descent to get back to point 5, so I turned back. To avoid ending up on the road, at point 11 I turned left to join the deserted road leading to the campsite. Once on the road, you go down 200m and, almost at the end of the first bend, there’s a path going up to the left. 50 metres further on, turn left again, and at the end, after about 200 metres, turn right onto a small path under the trees that leads straight to the bridge; just cross it to get back to the car. I didn’t see anyone else.
Otherwise, the route is easy to follow and the walk isn’t difficult.

Hello,
Thanks for your comments
For the promontory, I will add a trace for this option.
For the last part, I couldn't find an option to avoid the asphalt.

Glad you enjoyed the hike

Hello
We did this hike today. We really enjoyed it, with the option at point 8, even without the trail: you just need to specify that when heading towards the promontory, you first come to a three-way junction and you need to turn left. The view from the promontory is truly magnificent.
The start is a bit long: 3 km on tarmac, but on a road with little traffic, then very little traffic. Then it's nature...
One difficulty: between points 10 and 11, the path is almost impassable due to forestry vehicles that have destroyed it. Several large potholes prevent passage and you have to scramble off the path.
Finally, you can walk along the river at the bottom of the wall without having to stay at the side of the road. There are then only about 400 m left to walk on tarmac after climbing back up to the side of the road via a slightly steep slope (a knotted rope has been installed to help).
One small detail: the altitudes on my GPS were incorrect (higher than what appears)

A lovely walk on a beautiful spring’s day. The route was full of flowers. The path along the stunning Lake Pannecière was pleasant despite the tarmac. A pleasant walk through beautiful forests. At point 8, due to a lack of detail – particularly regarding the distance – we didn’t look for the headland.
A fairly easy walk in the wonderful Morvan.
Don’t hesitate to give it a go.

The walk is enjoyable, though quite strenuous due to the significant elevation gain. Most of the route is through woodland, and there aren’t really any views, despite the climb – which is a shame.
We couldn’t find the headland (option at point 8). A trail marking for this section would have helped us.
The final stretch along the road is less pleasant, especially as you often have to walk on the carriageway. Perhaps it’s better to stay on the other side of the lake? Fortunately, there’s very little traffic at this time of year.
But we enjoyed it, and met some locals who were always very friendly as we passed through the villages.
Thanks for the route.
