Red and white GR®59 markings and specific signs bearing the symbol "J"
(S) From the Belvédère de Pupillin, join the Buvilly road and turn right. Just before the village exit sign, turn left and follow the signs for the Arboretum. Continue until you reach the signpost "Les sept Sergents".
(1) Keep right, following the signs for Poligny. Pass the Fanum (Gallo-Roman ruins) and continue to the intersection with a PR®.
(2) Ignore this PR® and continue straight ahead. After several bends downhill, you will come to a crossroads upstream of a high-voltage power line.
(3) Keep left (south-west) and descend to the signpost on the Chamole road.
(4) Cross it and continue south-west, following the gravel path that runs alongside the vineyards before entering the woods. Continue to the signpost for "Gorges de Greubey".
(5) Continue along the path climbing to the left, following the signs for Trou de la Lune/Grande Corniche. Continue until you reach the signpost for Roche du Pénitent.
(6) Turn left, following the signs for Roche du Pénitent. Follow a steep zigzag path to reach the Grotte du Pénitent. Continue climbing until you reach the signpost for the Pénitent at the intersection with a PR®. (Note: you can go left for about 100 metres to return to an unsecured viewpoint over the vineyard).
(7) Turn right (south-west) to continue climbing towards the Grande Corniche. Continue until you reach the intersection marked by the sign "Sur la roche du Midi".
(8) Take care as the cliffs are dangerous (indicated by a sign) and continue climbing the superb Grande Corniche with its many views of old Poligny, the Croix du Dan and the valley and vineyards. You will reach the top of the corniche at the signpost "Grande Corniche".
(9) Head right into the woods along the path leading down to the D257. Turn right and continue to the hairpin bend and the path leading to the Trou de la Lune. Be careful, access to the cave is quite difficult. Only climb into the cave if you are sure-footed and not prone to vertigo!
(10) Continue on the D257 and turn right onto the first path downhill. Cross the D257 carefully and continue straight ahead on the path until you reach the departmental road again.
(11) Cross it carefully and take the grassy path opposite, which descends alongside a stone wall. Continue downhill through the Grimont woods to Rue du Théâtre, behind the Jacobins Church.
(12) Go down the street and quickly turn left onto Rue Jules Grevy, then at the stop sign, follow the signs for Croix du Dan indicated by the signpost "Les Jacobins". On Rue Hyacinthe Friant, walk along the gates of the Lycée before arriving at Place des Déportés in Poligny. Turn left to cross this square diagonally to the south-east. You will arrive in front of the statue of General Travot.
(13) Go around the statue and continue on Rue de Boussières, which starts to the left of the Crémerie Juraflore. Stay on this street until you reach No. 93, where you will see a bridge preceded by a signpost on your right. Head towards this bridge.
(14) Before the bridge, turn left towards Culée de Vaux/Croix du Dan. Walk along the small road that runs alongside the Glantine. When you reach the Girod company, turn left to pass the buildings on your right, then continue along the grassy path that zigzags eastwards until you reach the D257, at an electricity pole.
(15) Walk to the right on the departmental road, then cross it carefully to continue on the stony path uphill. You will arrive at Rue des Vignes in the village of Vaux-sur-Poligny. Continue to the fork and go straight ahead on Rue Chantemerle, which climbs slightly to the town hall and a fountain decorated with flowers.
(16) Turn right/left to continue on Rue de la Mairie. You will arrive at a stop sign opposite the Prieuré de Vaux-sur-Poligny.
(17) Cross the N5 carefully and follow the wall of the Priory on your right, then turn right and take the path that passes in front of the Château de Vaux-sur-Poligny. Cross the Glantine and continue to the crossroads in front of a pasture.
(18) Keep to the right to cross the Culée de Vaux to the south-east, then, at the intersection with a PR® (public footpath), continue to the right through the Mont de Vaux, following the signs for Croix du Dan. Stay on this path which, after a descent, arrives at the signpost "Sous le Dan" which marks an intersection with a PR®.
(19) Taking great care, climb up to the left along the Roche du Dan, a steep and slippery path that can be difficult in wet weather. You will arrive at the superb viewpoint of the Croix du Dan, which offers a bird's eye view of Poligny, the cliffs of the reculée and the Trou de la Lune cave.
(20) At the signpost marked "Croix du Dan", follow the signs for Chemin de St Savin/Les Bordes. After a short climb, begin a descent that takes you south-west to the D256 at the signpost marked "Croix de Saint-Savin".
(21) Continue right (southwest) on the side of the D256, taking care. Descend to the stop sign 150 m ahead.
(22) Turn left onto the path that runs along a rocky hillside. Pass the Grotte de Roncevaux before arriving at a fork at an elevation of 547 metres.
(23) Turn left towards Plasne. Follow the road past a quarry on your right until you reach a fork at the signpost for "Le Mont".
(24) Turn south-west and continue across the fields to arrive at Rue du Château d'eau in the village of Plasne. Continue to the centre of the village until you arrive in front of the war memorial.
(25) Cross the D65 carefully and after a left/right turn, follow the signs for La Marre. Stay on Rue de la Bascule, then turn right at the intersection to continue on Rue de la Creuse. At the intersection with Rue de la Croix Probi, continue on the grassy path opposite, which heads north-west. Go downhill to the fork at Petit Plasne.
(26) Continue north/north-east to reach Rue du Paradis. Continue to the church and cemetery.
(27) Turn right to pass in front of the church and cemetery heading north. Continue along this path until you reach the Curtil d'Osier farm (cheese dairy).
(28) Continue west to reach the village of Miéry. Continue straight ahead at the fountain and follow Rue d'en Dessous until you reach the intersection.
(29) Turn left (south-west) to continue along Rue de la Pannière and leave the village of Miéry. Ignore all side roads and stay on this road until you reach a fork.
(30) Continue south to Chemin des Bordes, then turn right to reach the Brenne River.
(31) Cross this stream and continue westwards until you arrive at the lodge/campsite "La Maison du Haut" (E), where you can set up camp for the night.
