Promajna - Lokva

The small forest house in Lokva owes its name to a mountaineer from Makarska. It is located on the Biokovo plateau above the villages of Veliko Brdo and Makarska. The suggested route from Promajna passes through the village of Bast. After a fairly steep climb, you will reach the Biokovo plateau. You will then enjoy an exceptional view of the islands of Brač and Hvar. In Lokva, you will be very close to Sveti Jure (Saint George), the highest point of Biokovo.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: In Biokovo Nature Park: Sveti Ilija and Lokva

Description of the walk

The start of this hike is in Promajna at "Apartments by the sea".

(S/E) From the apartment, head towards the seafront. Turn right and take the promenade towards Baška Voda. Pass the Azimut restaurant and walk along the marina until you reach an intersection with a path leading inland.

(1) Turn right onto a dirt track and join the D8 road.

(2) Cross the road carefully and take the path on the left that runs alongside the vineyard until you reach the intersection with a track.

(3) Follow it to the right, heading north-east, until you reach the entrance to the village of Bast (Church of the Assumption of Mary - crkva Uznesenja Marijana).

(4) Cross the village of Bast until you reach the intersection that leads to the Church of Saint Roch (Crkva sv. Roka), which is worth a visit.

(5) Heading east, continue on the right, crossing Bast and following the red and white markings to the last house in the village. Join the Bast - Motika path towards the wall.

(6) Begin the ascent on a fairly steep path. Cross a long, fairly steep scree slope to reach Korito.

(7) Stay on the Bast-Motika path. Turn right and cross another long scree slope. Enjoy a passage through the undergrowth and a little shade. Then continue on the path that climbs rapidly through the rocks. The path plays hide and seek, making it difficult to know where the gap is! And yet it exists. Finally, climb a beautiful chimney to reach the plateau.

(8) On the plateau, at the foot of the Motika summit, take note of your surroundings, as the paths form a large triangular crossroads. Leave the path on the right that leads to Veliko Brdo and the one opposite that leads to Lokva. Take the path opposite and you will come to another intersection about 200 m further on.

(9) Turn right onto the BPS towards Lokva. Walk along a rocky path to the "Slobodan Ravlić" forest house in Lokva.

(10) Enjoy the view of the nearby peak, Sveti Jure, then return to the starting point via the same route you took on the way there (S/E).
