Bol - Vidova Gora - Murvica - Bol circular

Vidova Gora is the highest point on the Adriatic coast (780 m).
Bol is a small port on the south coast of the island of Brač. If you are lucky enough to stay in this small village, a climb up to the Vidova Gora plateau is a must. This cliff offers a magnificent view of the Dalmatian coast (Makarska Massif) and the neighbouring island of Hvar. From the centre of Bol, climb the narrow streets to the main road (airport road), cross this road and head towards Podborje. From Murvica, you will reach Zlatni-Rat beach, often called Golden Cape or Golden Horn , by road, then return to Bol via the paved promenade.

Description of the walk

The starting point for this hike is near the Port of Bol, at the Parish Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

(S/E) From the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Crkva Gospe Od Karmela), head north-west and take the Novi Put (New Road). Leave the village of Bol and arrive at the Brač road.

(1) Cross Bračka Cesta with caution and continue towards the hamlet of Donje Podbarje. Pass in front of St. Joseph's Church (Crkva Sv. Josipa). At the exit of this hamlet, the Vidova-Gora walking trail is signposted. Continue northwards until you reach a fork in the road.

(2) Take the left fork, the Bol-Vidova Gora Path (Vela Staza Bol Vidova Gora). Begin the long climb up Vidova Mountain and you will come to a crossroads on a ridge.

(3) Turn left, still on Bol Vidova Gora, and follow the ridge to the telecommunications and television antennas.

(4) Continue to the ruins of St. Vida's Church (Crkva Sv. Vida, 13th century).

(5) Enjoy the view of the sea and Zlatni Rat beach. Retrace your steps a little to the previous intersection. Turn left and follow this other path to the intersection near the antennas.

(4) Turn left and follow a track. Pass the first junction on your left and continue to the next junction.

(6) Here, take the track on the left, Poučna Staza, and follow it to the next intersection.

(7) Turn left onto a gently sloping path to the edge of the cliffs.

(8) Begin the descent to the left on a good winding path and return to the village of Murvica, overlooking the sea, at the Marija restaurant on the coastal road.

(9) Follow this road to the left, heading east. Continue until you reach the fork towards Zlatni Rat.

(10) Take the path on the right and descend towards Zlatni Rat beach.

(11) Enjoy a break at Zlatni Rat. Heading east, continue towards Bol. Take the coastal path, then the paved promenade, to return to the village centre and the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Crkva Gospe Od Karmela) (S/E).
