Parking in the Port de Gimouille (harbour) car park
(S/E) At the end of the small car park, turn right onto the dock and reach the end of the dock.
(1) Turn right onto the bridge over the Canal Latéral à la Loire. Cross over and take the towpath at a right angle to the left. Follow it to the canal bridge over the Allier.
(2) Cross the canal bridge: view to the right over the Bec d'Allier (cape) and Nevers (hospital), and to the left over the Allier towards Apremont. Follow the two locks.
Arrive at the crossroads with the D976.
(3) Cross the Route de Bourges (RD 976). Follow the right bank towpath opposite.
Go as far as the junction with the feeder canal coming from the Lorraine lock intake.
(4) Keep right on the right-bank canal towpath. Follow the canal, and at the first bridge, go straight ahead along the canal to reach a new bridge.
(5) Leave the towpath and turn right onto the Chemin de la Chaume au Bec d'Allier. Follow this road as far as the Allier levee, ignoring left and right signs at all crossroads.
Reach the crossroads in a bend at the viewpoint and information panels.
(6) Go left, down into the alluvial plain. Follow the dirt track, left towards the river, then right, up the left bank of the Allier.
(7) After the first bend to the right, a stop can be made on the left at the edge of the Allier to see the confluence of the Allier and Loire rivers (Bec d'Allier) and observe the birds.
Return to the path and follow it along the wild meadows on the banks of the Allier, possibly to see the grazing sheep. Reach the Guétin roundabout, but do not enter it.
Cross the Allée du Déversoir, take the small road below the RD976, follow along the village of Le Guétin and reach the RD976 crossroads.
(3) Follow the same route as the outward journey, turning left to reach the starting car park (S/E).
