Description of the walk

Access: At Prabert, take the wide forest track following theGRP® Tour des Balcons des Sept Laux route, and park after the hairpin bend.

(S) From the car park, head back down the wide forest track you arrived on and, at the hairpin bend, look for a path on the left through the undergrowth towards the Pont de la Betta.

(1). Cross the bridge; at the three-way junction, leave the path leading up to Lac de Crop on your left and follow the wide track on the right, a variant ofthe GR® Tour des Balcons des Sept Laux. Reach the Les Chères three-way junction.

(2) Turn left onto theGR®549B, marked in red and white, leaving the path to the right heading towards Col des Mouilles. Continue along thisGR® to Pré Marcel.

(3). Cross the car park and continue along theGR® towards the Refuge Jean Collet. Climb through the forest to emerge onto a balcony path equipped in places with handrails. Already, the view takes in the Chartreuse, Dent de Crolles, Chamechaude and Granier. Reach the refuge.

(4) Continue along theGR® and you will very quickly reach a signposted junction.

(5) Head straight on towards Lac Blanc (sign: 50 mins). Climb rapidly through a rocky landscape, dotted with a few pools of water, and finally emerge at the majestic Lac Blanc (E), at the foot of the Grand Pic de Belledonne.

Enjoy the hike if you combine it with Day 2 of the Tour du Grand Replomb (it goes without saying, but you never know).
However:
- the route could be more enjoyable: you spend too long in the forest in the shade at the start, when this could be avoided;
- it’s advertised as taking 7½ hours to complete the hike; with three friends (we’re all 21), it took us 4 hours 40 minutes...
We were surprised to find ourselves camping at Lac Blanc with a ibex just 10 metres away from us!

Hello, I’m not sure if this is actually a problem or not, but the route shown is marked with a cross and the signs indicating the path in the lower section at the start are crossed out. So we took the path leading up to the pass to reach Lac Blanc.

Just after waypoint 2, you can take a slightly shorter route through the forest by heading east of Pré Michu. This section is very clearly signposted.
Please note, the total distance is actually 25km as the walk only mentions the outward leg.
It took us 9 hours to complete the round trip, including a break for lunch by the lake.
You can do a circular route via Lake Crop on the way back, next to the refuge.

Good evening,
I’m sorry, but I’m going to give you a non-committal answer: ‘maybe yes, maybe no’ – or rather, I’m neither for nor against it, quite the opposite, (Humour) Actually, I’ve no idea what the requirements are for hiking with a dog! I know of dogs capable of rescuing a swimmer in distress, dogs able to abseil from a helicopter or locate people buried in snow or rubble... but as for yours, as I don’t know the animal, it’s very difficult for me to offer an opinion or advice.
Kind regards,
Pat
