Description of the walk

Start from the beginning of the fitness trail.

Marked with green, yellow and blue triangles.

(S/E)Follow the signposted path opposite, continue to the gate at the end of the fitness trail,go straight on, then you’ll come to a Fork in the road.

(1) Take the path on the right. Then keep to the left, pass a hunting lodge, and arrive at a sharp left-hand bend.

(2) Take this bend and follow the path uphill to the junction with the Chemin de Procession.

Signposted with blue/yellow/green triangles with a white cross

(3) Turn left, then immediately turn right. Follow the path along the edge of the woodland, (do not follow the ‘single’ Green Triangle which points to the right towards the 7 km circular loop). You’ll come to a Fork in the road.

(4) Leave the edge of the woodland and take the path on the right into the forest. You’ll come to a Fork in the road with a bridle path.

(5) Carry on to the right. At the junction, go straight on; do not follow the bridle path which branches off to the left, until you reach a Fork in the road.

(6) At the junction, take a wide path on the left and you’ll reach a forest road.

(7) Cross it and continue straight on until you reach a Fork in the road.

Signposted with yellow/green triangles and a White Cross

(8) At the junction, take the path on the right and follow it (do not follow the Blue Triangle on the left). Continue until you reach a wide forest track on the left.

Carry on to a crossroads.

(9) Go straight on; the route now joins the 16 km and 21 km circular loops again.

Markings: Green Triangles with a White Cross

(10) Take the track on the right and follow it (do not follow the Yellow Triangle and Blue Triangle markings). Continue to the path before the junction with the forest road.

(11) Take the small path on the left and follow the route back, which is shared with the 7 km route. Continue straight on until you reach the bottom of the descent.

(12) Take the path straight ahead through the picnic area, follow the signposting and turn right, then immediately left, until you reach the car park (S/E).

We completed this walk (in 2 hours 30 minutes) in sweltering heat and enjoyed the coolness of the woods and the forest.
The route is flat and well signposted (following upside-down triangles), as described in the guide and shown on the map.
We’ll probably do the other suggested routes of 12 and 16 km.
Thanks to the FLI association in Pompey.
