Description of the walk

Large car park on Chemin de Costelongue, just after the school.

(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left, then immediately right onto a slightly uphill street. Follow this road for about 150 metres, keeping to the right, then continue on a carriage road.

(1) At the fork, take the small path on the right, which goes uphill. Turn right again at the next crossroads to reach the Cabane and its beautiful view of the Cévennes mountains. On a clear day, you can see Mont Ventoux, Mont Bouquet and Mont Aigoual. In winter, you can see snow on the peaks.

(2) Retrace your steps to descend and continue straight ahead at the junction you passed on the way up. You will come out onto a small road in the middle of vineyards.

(3) Turn right, walk about 60 metres and then turn left. Follow the path that winds through the vineyards of Lézan, where sheep graze in spring and summer. You will reach a crossroads near a wooded area.

(4) Turn right and follow the edge of the woods along a wide, open path. At one point, there used to be a remarkable old tree on the left side of the path. Unfortunately, it had to be cut down, but you can imagine its size just by the width of its stump. Then enter the woods and you will immediately come to a crossroads.

(5) Turn left to continue through the undergrowth and make sure you keep going in the same direction, ignoring the paths on the right. This part is very pleasant in hot weather as it is sheltered from the sun. There are many places where you can take a break in the shade. Leave the woods and join a small road.

(6) Turn left onto this little-used road. Follow it for a few hundred metres: below, you can see the Voie Verte.

(7) Turn left and follow the GR®6 on a narrow path that starts off uphill: this is the only real difficulty of the route. The path climbs gradually, requiring a little effort. Then begin the descent to reach a crossroads located almost directly below a power line: viewpoint over the Cévennes with the vineyards below.

(8) Continue to the right and then to the left, following the GR® and a small road for about 200 metres.

(9) Turn right and follow a slightly uphill path leading to the junction at the Cabane viewpoint.

(1) Turn right to return to the car park (S/E).

A very easy route for a family hike. At the start, you cross vast vineyards before entering the undergrowth. It's pleasant and pretty, peaceful, with beautiful views of the Cévennes mountains. Don't miss the viewpoint indicated on the route at the start of the hike.
