Starting point and access: Ermitage car park in Franchard.
The car park is located a few metres from the crossroads where a cross stands on the D301, known as the Route Ronde (signposted). This crossroads is itself located near the junction of the Route Ronde with the D409, which connects Arbonne-la-Forêt and Fontainebleau (when coming from this junction, turn right).
No signposts
(S/E) Head towards the vehicle exit (east) and then the Carrefour de la Croix de Franchard on the Route Ronde. Go around the crossroads on the right (take care when crossing the Route Ronde) and take thefirst path on the right heading south-east. Further on, cross the Route Mazarin and you will arrive at the Carrefour du Houx.
Blue markings + blue markers designated by letters
(1) Take thefirst path on the left, the Denecourt-Collinet path no. 7. Keep heading east on this path, which winds along a rocky ridge, and follow the markings (which are dense). At a T-junction, follow the connecting trail 7-8 to the right. Join the Route du Mont Aigu and veer left to immediately reach a crossroads with signposts.
(2) Follow trail no. 8 to the right towards Grand Point de Vue and wind your way along flat ground through fern undergrowth. Cross a path (Route du Mont Aigu on the map) then a discreet trail and continue winding your way along.
(3) At the trail junction, continue to the right on trail no. 8 towards Grand Point de Vue. Follow the markings carefully. At marker J, squeeze between two rocks. Cross a path (Route des Gorges de Franchard on the map) and continue straight ahead on the trail. Climb up several bends to reach a viewpoint (signposts).
(4) Follow trail no. 8 to the left (east) and descend. The trail winds its way through the rocks (note rocks H and G) and leads to a wide gravel path, Route Henriquez.
No markings
Follow the wide path to the right and descend gently. At the Dutour crossroads, take thesecond path on the right, still on Route Henriquez.
(5) At the next crossroads, turn right onto Route du Long Boyau (Route du Pin Sylvestre, supposed to be thefirst road on the right on the map, has probably disappeared). Walk west for 1 km on this wide road, ignoring the side roads. After about 500 m, this road runs alongside a biological reserve on the left-hand side.
(6) Turn right onto Route du Chêne Rouge and go uphill. At the top, at the crossroads of the same name, continue straight ahead on Route du Chêne Rouge. Continue straight ahead (north-northwest) until you reach Route Ronde.
Blue markings
Cross the road carefully, pass a forest barrier and immediately turn right onto a discreet path. Cross another path marked in blue and aGR® and continue north-northwest. Look for a wooden staircase on the right and climb it to reach the car park (S/E).
