Petit Mont Blanc walks
Le Petit Mont Blanc via the Sentier des cent virages
A must-do hike in the commune of Pralognan-la-Vanoise. Bucolic setting, magnificent views. Grande Casse and Mont Blanc, among others.
Le Petit Mont Blanc via the southern slope
A substantial but steady climb for a magnificent panorama.
Tour des Glaciers de la Vanoise starting from Modane
This fabulous 8-stage route (+ 2 variants) is challenging and requires excellent physical fitness, as some passes reach an altitude of nearly 3,000m.
The first two stages deviate from the usual route, making this route even more appealing. The mountain landscapes, glaciers, pastures and flora are among the most beautiful in the Alps. Wildlife is particularly abundant, as in the Mercantour. Every day we saw marmots, ibex and chamois.
Four days in the Vanoise
This four-day summer circular route is designed for independent hikers who do not wish to stay in or near mountain huts. Consequently, the bivouac sites are located outside the Vanoise National Park and the Plan de Tuéda Nature Reserve.
6-day Maurienne–Vanoise crossing, from Bonneval-sur-Arc to Modane
This 6-day hike from mountain hut to mountain hut will take you from Bonneval-sur-Arc back to Modane.
There are no particular technical difficulties; the walk follows good paths, partly along theGRP® Tour de Haute-Maurienne route and partly along theGR®55.
The scenery is magnificent and, if you’re lucky, you might spot bearded vultures, which are beginning to re-establish themselves in the area.
Refuge des Lacs Merlets – Refuge de la Valette
This third stage will take you from the Refuge des Lacs Merlets to the Refuge de la Valette.
This stage is undoubtedly the most challenging, with 1,400 metres of elevation gain. The ascent of the Petit Mont Blanc, a difficult descent to Les Prioux, followed by another beautiful and long climb (900m of elevation gain) to the Col de la Valette and its refuge, will make for a memorable day.
From the hamlet of Les Prioux to Lac du Rateau
First day of a 4-day route in the Vanoise massif.
A very pleasant climb along the ‘100-bend’ path to reach the summit of the Petit Mont Blanc and its orientation table. A lovely end to the day in the Combe du Rateau.
From the Col de la Vanoise refuge to the Lacs Merlet refuge
Another great stage for this fourth day, culminating in the ascent of Petit Mont-Blanc (2,677 m), before finishing at the tiny Lacs Merlet refuge, tucked away in its lush green setting. The suggested route avoids the main roads and Pralognan as much as possible (Lac des Vaches is, admittedly, very pretty, but it’s a motorway all the way).
