Short circuit starting from La Condamine

An easy hike in the mineral world of the Causse Méjean: a plateau marked by both austerity and gentle tranquillity. You will stroll through a landscape full of curves, between hills and sinkholes at the bottom of which you will discover a lavogne (a small, circular depression in the ground) or a small cultivated field: one of the characteristic landscapes of the UNESCO-listed sites.

Description of the walk

Arriving from Montbrun (or Florac), park at the side of the D68, at the signs for La Condamine-Les Champs.

(S/E) Follow the path due east, crossing the vast plain. At the end, leave Mas Saint-Pierre on your right and continue straight ahead on the path: first gate. Then climb slightly to reach the ruins of the old farm and the Dolmen de Combe le Brouze.

(1) Go past it and continue straight ahead, going downhill and overlooking a sinkhole (ladder crossing). Reach the Plaine de Mativet with its cultivated land and come to a crossroads.

(2) Go around the grove of trees, leave the large field on your right and take the path on the left to climb up into the valley and reach a viewpoint over the Causse via three ladder passages.

(3) Continue to the crossroads with the small road to Tomple, which follows the GRP® Tour du Causse Méjean.

(4) Take it on the left (yellow and red markings) to reach a new viewpoint over the Causse.

(5) Continue until you reach the hamlet of Tomple.

(6) Here you can climb up to the right to the Single antennas, a 3-4 km round trip, to enjoy a superb view. Otherwise, follow the route on the map through the hamlet and follow the track downhill. You will reach a flat area with a green gate.

(7) Leave the track and the GRP®, turn left onto the path between the box trees and continue to the stream. Go around it and descend towards the plain to rejoin the GRP® and the small road.

(8) Take it on the left, pass in front of the hamlet of La Condamine and continue to the car park (S/E).
