Description of the walk

(S/E) From the church car park, take the D277 towards Chapelle Souëf. Pass the Manoir de la Fourmondière and continue until you reach a junction with a path on the right.

(1) Follow this tarmac road leading to La Pataise and turn onto the dirt track. Pass Les Grouas to reach a tarmac road, which you follow to the Croix de Longnonet.

(2) Cross the road and take the Chemin de l’Hôtel Jacquet opposite, which joins the D626 road to Saint-Aubin-des-Grois; follow this road to the left for 500 m.

(3) Turn right onto the stony path that passes in front of L’Arpent, then continue left, climbing the dirt track that leads to Le Petit Bélouse via a stony path. Continue to Les Essarts.

(4) Leave the stony path on the left and follow a grassy path down to the Étang Cochard stream, which you cross by fording (difficult crossing in wet weather). Continue along a dirt track that runs alongside the stream to a junction.

(5) Turn left onto a sunken dirt track leading to the Goussardières farm. Go round the buildings on the left, following the tarmac road which joins the D277; follow this to the right towards the hamlet of St Gauburge. (Take the time to discover and admire the Manoir des Chaponnières on the left).

(6) Walk past the Manoir de Sainte-Gauburge and the Perche Museum of Folk Arts and Traditions, then follow the road to Saint-Cyr-la Rosière for 100 m.

(7) Turn left onto the stony track that passes in front of Le Valangelier. Continue straight on along the dirt track which joins the Chemin de l’Angenardière. (Take a moment to admire the manor house on your left).

(8) Turn right onto the small tarmac road (take care) leading to Clémencé. Pass the chapel, cross the hamlet and join the D277, turning left onto it to reach the village of Saint-Cyr-le-Rosière, where the car park is located (S/E).

A great route.
However, as it isn’t very busy, long stretches of the trail require you to make your own way through the vegetation and tall grass.

The route proved less pleasant than expected, as for a significant portion of the first 7 km, the views of the surrounding countryside were not as good as hoped, due to sunken paths—or, at times, paths running below ground level—lined or overgrown with spring vegetation, tall grass and brambles… paths that appear to be little-used. From Ste Gauburge (6) onwards, we rediscover the charm of the Perche countryside and the interesting heritage sites described.

A lovely route. Lots of small sunken paths, some of which are quite deeply eroded.
A pleasant walk

A lovely, easy walk.
Discover some beautiful architectural heritage.
Lovely country lanes.
Perhaps one slight downside: a bit too much tarmac! But that doesn’t detract from the experience!

A lovely route I discovered this Saturday – a real treat!
Lots of paths, lovely open countryside, beautiful houses and manor houses: I really enjoyed this route.
I’d highly recommend it if you also enjoy peace and quiet.
