Description of the route

Starting from the car park at the Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron Tourist Office.

(S/E) Head north-east on Rue de la Bouline, which runs opposite the Tourist Office parking lot. At the T-junction, turn right onto Rue Louis Barthou, then at another T-junction, opposite a green gate, turn right again, then left onto Rue des Terres. Continue straight ahead until the next T-junction and turn right onto Rue du Levant. At the crossroads of four streets, turn left onto Rue de l'Éguille.

(1) After about 250 metres, turn right onto Chemin des Pampas and continue along the road after the tarmac ends. You will arrive at La Boirie.

(2) Turn right to cross the hamlet. Keep right on Rue Centrale at the next intersection, then at the four-way intersection, continue straight ahead on Rue des Marattes. Follow the street as it curves to the left.

(3) At the next right-hand bend, leave the road and turn left onto the cycle path towards Dolus. Arrive at Arceau.

(4) Leave the cycle path and turn left onto Rue des Salines, then follow the road as it curves to the right. At the four-way intersection, turn left onto Rue Pierre Bergé, then at the three-way intersection, turn right onto Rue de l'Écorcherie.

(5) After the road bends left, take the path on the left. Further on, cross a bridge and continue straight ahead (the path is a little grassy and narrower) then, at a fork in the path, keep to the right. You will arrive at two ponds perpendicular to the path.

(6) Pass the first one and turn left onto a well-marked path. At a T-junction, turn left and join a road.

(7) Follow it to the right.

(8) At the intersection of three roads with a grassy central reservation, keep left.

(9) At the next intersection, turn right. You will reach Saint-Pierre and the cycle path at a four-way intersection.

(10) Continue straight ahead, first on the cycle path, then on the road.

(11) At the T-junction, turn right, make two left turns to pass in front of a mill (private), then continue straight ahead on Rue de la République. At the town hall, turn left to find the Tourist Office (S/E).

Notes

By mountain bike or hybrid bike. When it is windy, you can really feel it in the wide open marshes. The roads are not very busy.

If you are attentive and discreet, you can observe several species of birds that enjoy wetlands (egrets, herons, etc.), as well as small birds of prey (sparrowhawks, buzzards, etc.).

A wonderful change of scenery, with the opportunity to see a number of birds in the wild during this hike.
The second part follows a narrow road between Boyardville and St Pierre, which is a little less pleasant.
