Los Tres Barrios: discover the white villages
The 3 white villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira in Spain's Sierra Nevada are linked by a well-marked footpath that allows you to admire the region without much difficulty for walkers. The welcome is warm, the walkers rare and the scenery magnificent. Unique views from the opposite shore, inaccessible to other tourists in vehicles.
San Anton Trail - SLA 247
Hike found on a sign in Monachil
This trail offers a route that combines diverse landscapes with the history and traditions of Monachil. Used since ancient times by local villagers to pay homage to Saint Anthony, it offers superb views of Monachil and the neighbouring cities of Granada and the Sierra Nevada.
This walk is circular and starts in the centre of Monachil.
We started from the municipal car park, which has plenty of parking spaces and is suitable for motorhomes.
It is very well signposted; follow the SLA 247 signs.
TERRAIN: Compact, stony and rocky ground
From the caves of Nerja to Pico del Cielo
This route is a round trip from the car park located just before the entrance to the Nerja caves. The path is wide and stony. After a little over 6 km, you will arrive at Cortigo de la Sibila (ruins), the last flat area before tackling the 4 km climb to the summit. You need to be more careful before the summit as there are fewer signs. Look for the blue or red markings and the mounds of stones (cairns). At the summit there is a cross. You have a view of the coast (Nerja, Maro, Torrox...) and the Sierra Nevada if the sky is clear. The return journey is via the same route.
