(S/E) The trail is circular and starts in the centre of Monachil, near the river, with a steep climb along Calle Cuevas to a drinking trough. From there, we’ll take a magnificent path towards Pico de la Cruz, offering superb panoramic views.
(1) After a short climb and passing the ruins of the Cortijo de las Rosas, we’ll begin the descent along a pleasant path. A few metres further on, we’ll reach the Cañada Real del Camino de los Neveros, which we’ll follow for just over a kilometre to El Contadero.
(2) There, we will turn left onto another transhumance track that will take us to the upper part of Huétor Vega.
We will continue our descent through an area of orchards bordering the river to Cortijo los Olivares, near the archaeological site of Cerro de la Encina, dating from the Argar culture. From there, we will take a pleasant path running parallel to the Acequia del Albaricoque irrigation channel, which will take us back to the village of Monachil (S/E).
