Start from the lowest village, Pampaneira. Park at the first car park at the top of the village, in the hairpin bend.
(S/E) Cross the road to Calle La Peseta, then Calle Principe.
Continue uphill through the village until you reach the exit at the last house, along a stony path.
(1) Follow the signposts "GR®7 Bubion" (red ring surmounted by a white ring) and "Sendero Pueblos del Porqueira", (yellow ring surmounted by a white ring).
You quickly rise above the first village of Pampaneira in the direction of Bubion (sometimes this name is literally marked on the stones).
There are no directional difficulties on this first section, and you approach the village of Bubion from below, ending up in the church square.
Follow Calle Real and the village signs "Sendero: Pueblos del Poqueira" and "Polideportivo Municipal" (sports complex). Leave the village via Calle Liso, signposted with yellow and white ring bollards, and pass over the small sports stadium.
(2) Turn right to reach the last village, with Capileira in your sights.
The path is always well-marked, with a few step crossings to bypass properties. (see practical information, the path seems to have been rerouted).
Also approaching the last village from below, continue until you reach the Maestro Nevot sports complex and public park.
(3) From the public park, turn left into the village (Calle Duende) and arrive at the main square, Plaza Calvario.
Take Calle Cubo in the opposite direction out of this village and rejoin the path marked by Calle Cerzo at the hairpin bend.
The path gradually descends to the river, with the only difficulty being a few field access paths of equivalent size to the path. Be sure to follow the yellow and white signposts.
(4) Cross the bridge over the river and the trail climbs up the other side to the next crossroads.
(5) Watch out for the bollards: turn left at the crossroads and follow the yellow and white markings only. The GR® goes off to the right. The two sets of signs are separated by different posts to warn you of this.
Follow the signs "Puente Molino Bubion" painted on the stones and "puente del Molino - Pampaneira" on the signposts along the almost horizontal path to a flat, paved area.
Go through several gates, closing them tightly behind you to prevent animals from wandering off.
(6) The flat, paved area is typical: it was used to sort grain with the help of the wind. Pass a large hut abandoned by the shepherds, then the descent begins on the path you'll follow to the next crossroads, towards the only signposting difficulty of the route, as two paths lead back to the start.
(7) Before the stream that marks the two paths, don't cross the concrete footbridge in front of you, turn left and descend towards the Rio Mulhacén (for your information, just after this footbridge, there's a post with a yellow and white cross and yellow and white markings: it's hard to understand!)
Descend to Bubion, cross the bridge over the Rio Mulhacén river.
(8) Climb back up to Bubion (signposted) and arrive below the small sports complex from the outward journey.
(2) No difficulty in crossing the village of Bubion in the other direction and taking the downhill path which takes you back to Pampaneira in 1 km and 20 minutes (S/E).
The long, steep climbs made my thighs and calves suffer, and it took them 5 days to recover!
