Orio - Itxaspe

A circular route starting from the village of Orio at the mouth of the river of the same name. It will allow you to admire the coastline before returning to the town via narrow streets that are well worth exploring.

The first part is "natural" and less frequented; the second part is more urban, on roads, and more frequented because it shares the Camino de Santiago route...
We crossed the bridge and pushed on to the end of the pier before returning to the route to the Thalasso.
A total of 17 km.

A very interesting hike in the first half as it runs along the coast. No particular difficulty. After the farm, you take a small road through the forest, which is very pleasant. On arrival in Orio, you follow a road for 400 metres and pass under a motorway. This isn't very pleasant, but you then arrive in Orio via the old town and follow the river back to the starting point. A very enjoyable hike.

A very pleasant hike with no particular difficulties. The start is a little steep but not a problem. Most of the route is shaded. The seaside and the view of Getaria are superb. It's a shame that much of the hike is on a tarmac road. Crossing Orio allows us to discover the distinctive features of old Basque houses in the south (very different from those in the north).

More of a walk than a hike, with a bit of elevation gain, but this is the Basque Country.
It seems to be the locals' favourite route. Fast walking, trail running and mountain biking, but they all do it in the opposite direction, starting from the village and returning via the coastal path, which offers the most beautiful views. It should be noted that most of the circular route is on tarmac roads. There must be barely more than a kilometre of path in total.
Easy and popular, we came across families with children there.

A lovely outing. Easy, well-marked trails. Beautiful views of the ocean and the harbour. Lots of eucalyptus trees. Interesting points of interest on the way back. Just take the time to enjoy the land and sea. I went in the afternoon, and the trail was sheltered from the wind on the day of my hike. A family hike 😀

A pleasant walk with lovely views of Getaria and Orio.
Only the section near the motorway detracts slightly from the overall experience.
