Description of the walk

Park your car in The Esplanade car park or along The Esplanade Road.

(S/E) Head to the South West Coast path at the end of the car park and follow the path along Barricane Beach (notice several benches overlooking the bay) and Combesgate Beach. When you reach the road, bear left and go past "Watersmeet Hotel and Restaurant".

(1) Next to "The Baycliffe "car park, go down the zig-zag path on the left heading to "Coast path, Morte Point 3/4m". Go past Windy Cove before you reach Morte Point.

(2) Continue the South West Coast path for one mile ignoring the path to Mortehoe village on your way until you reach a junction signpost. Follow "Bull Point", go past Rockham Beach, then go down a few steps.

(3) When you are in front of the lighthouse, follow "Lee 1 1/2" walking along the wall, then go up the path which overlooks Bull Point and the lighthouse. Descend the steep path leading to a gate and a footbridge far away.

(4) Don't go through the gate but turn to the right "Morthoe 1m, Lee 3/4m".

(5) After 500 metres, continue straight still following "Mortehoe, Lee" signpost. Be careful, at the next junction, follow only "Mortehoe" ignoring the footbridge to Lee on your left. Go up the steep path leading to the road. Turn left onto this road and follow this way for half a mile.

(6) At crossroads (past the lighthouse entrance gate), ignore the public footpath on the left which leads to the Camping Park but take the second footpath on the left (narrow and hidden!!!) next to the "Combe View" property. Walk along this property until you enter the open meadow. Go straight across until you join a stile and a road. Bear right onto this road. Turn right when you reach Mortehoe Station Road following this road for 100 metres.

(7) Then, turn left "Twitchen 1/4m" and go through the kissing-gate. Descend straight ahead this grassy public footpath next to the low wall which leads to Twitchen House Holiday Park. Past the stile, turn left onto the driveway in the middle of motorhomes. Then, keep the right side and go past the reception.

(8) Don't take the "footpath to the beach" on the right but go straight up (towards D field). At the fork, bear left and follow the public footpath at the end of the car park in front of you. Enter the footpath in the woods and turn right "Woolacombe village 1m".

(9) Skirt the tiny reservoir, go past "Combesgate Valley" National Trust signpost and descend this beautiful path overlooking the valley.

(10) During your way down, continue straight ignoring paths to Combesgate or Seymour. You finally reach a gate next to the residential area. Go through, then go down Rockfield Road (keep the right side) until you join The Esplanade and the car park.(S/E)

Beautiful walk virtually all the way around. Got slightly confused at one section but very quickly back on track.

It's quite up and down so you need good ankles and knees!

Would happily do again

Great coastal walk on a windy day with intermittent views of Lundy island. Unfortunately the rain came as we crossed the golf course and we nearly got lost. Free parking at this time of the year too!

Great walk. Good mix of cliff paths and inland woods. Did on first day in Mortehoe and gave me a great sense of the area.
