The walk starts at the “Créteil Préfecture” station on metro line 8.
(S/E) Take exit 2 to reach Rue Maurice Utrillo via the footbridge, then take the stairs on your left. Go under the footbridge and walk along Rue Amédéo Modigliani to the crossroads. Cross the road to reach the pavement on the opposite side and take the road bridge on your right. On Avenue des Compagnons de la Libération, walk 350 metres alongside the Créteil Soleil shopping centre to Place Résistance et Déportation.
(1) At the roundabout, turn left into the street named Place du Général Pierre Billotte. In front of you stands the Maison des Arts et de la Culture (MAC), founded on the initiative of André Malraux and designated a ‘scène nationale’, with the tower of Créteil Town Hall in the background. Walk 150 metres and take the Quai de la Croisette, a small pedestrian walkway on your right at the traffic lights. Walk 200 metres to reach the shores of Lake Créteil. This is a former gypsum and gravel quarry. Enjoy the view by taking the Quai Jacques Offenbach on your left for 300 metres.
(2) Before the bend in the quay, take the steps on your left to reach the footbridge and its kiosk, which spans the Esplanade des Abymes from one bank to the other, surrounded by buildings arranged in a semicircle. Once past this urban amphitheatre, continue along the lake. As you pass by, take in the cascading fountain with its rockwork, then the curtain fountain, from where, as you walk behind its columns, you’ll enjoy a different view of the lake. Continue along the water’s edge to Avenue du Nouveau Monde and take the parallel path that runs alongside the lake for 600 metres.
(3) At this point, you’ll find the starting point of La Végétale, a 20-kilometre greenway leading to Seine-et-Marne. Follow the lake’s banks until you reach the facilities at the Ile de Loisirs de Créteil. A wide range of sports and water activities are available throughout the year, including a wave pool in summer.
(4) Take the path between the buildings on your left for 200 metres. Halfway along, you’ll find the Maison de la Nature. Open to all, this centre offers workshops on the environment.
(5) At the junction marked on the ground as a fire brigade lane, turn left and walk 250 metres to the car park on Rue Jean Gabin. Turn left and follow the path for pedestrians and cyclists down to Route de Choisy. Take the pavement on your left and walk 600 metres to the large roundabout at Carrefour Pompadour.
(6) Go round it on the left and take Avenue de la Pompadour, which takes you over the railway lines. At the Créteil-Pompadour RER station, turn left onto Chemin des Bœufs, following a circular loop that goes under the bridge you were just under a few moments ago. Turn left at the roundabout and head up Chemin des Marais towards the Parc Interdépartemental des Sports.
(7) Head down towards the car park and take the footpath alongside the football pitches, following the signs for Écopark Adventures. After the football pitches, turn right to reach the park. This tree-top adventure park features several courses of varying difficulty levels and is equipped with zip lines, some of which run over water. Just nearby, Le Kable is a sports complex featuring a large ski lift for water skiing and wakeboarding.
(8) Retrace your steps back to the car park exit.
(7) Turn left as you leave the car park. At the roundabout, take the left-hand exit towards Alfortville. Follow Chemin des Marais for 800 metres, then continue along Chemin de Villeneuve Saint-Georges. Within the Marais business park, numerous industrial and logistics warehouses line both sides of these roads. On Chemin de Villeneuve Saint-Georges, turn left at the traffic-light junction onto Allée Jean-Baptiste Preux, then right after the roundabout onto Rue Félix Mothiron, until you reach Superfly. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, this indoor leisure centre offers a combination of trampolines and obstacle courses of varying difficulty levels.
(9) Then take the footpath along Allée Félix Mothiron, which leads onto the road known as the Digue d’Alfortville. Turn left onto this street until you reach the traffic-light-controlled junction facing the Seine. Then take the Quais de la Révolution and Jean-Baptiste Clément to the right for 2 kilometres.
(10) At the Pont du Port à l'Anglais, continue along Quai Blanqui. 300 metres on, the Alfortville Aquatic Centre offers a range of sporting and leisure activities, including a water slide and a spa area. To enjoy a relaxing moment overlooking the Seine, the nearby Parc de l’Île au Cointre is perfect for a shaded picnic break and allows the more active to try their hand at ‘street workout’.
(11) Opposite the park, turn right onto Rue du 14 Juillet and continue to the roundabout. Turn left onto Rue Paul Vaillant Couturier. In the heart of Alfortville town centre, at Place François Mitterrand, cross diagonally through the pleasant Square Zéphitin Camélinat, a leafy spot opposite the town hall. Nearby, housed in a former rubber factory, the POC, a contemporary arts venue, hosts a wide range of performances. At the corner of the town hall brasserie, continue along Rue Jules Cuillerier and discover the imposing Notre-Dame d’Alfortville Church, dating from 1891 and listed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage since 1996.
(12) Continue along the road. At the end of the street, turn left onto Rue Louis Blanc and carry straight on along Rue du Port à l’Anglais. Continue along this street then turn right onto Rue Volta. Further on, at the corner of Rue Parmentier, stands the Hardbloc, one of the largest climbing centres in France. With a climbing area of over1,200 m², the facility features 29 climbing ‘routes’ for all levels. The site also has a gym and an adventure course for children.
(13) Continue along Rue Volta to Quai Blanqui and turn right. Follow the Seine along the 800-metre-long promenade to reach the Pont d’Ivry.
(14) Turn right and follow Rue Eugène Renault. At the end, take the second right to reach the Maisons-Alfort Veterinary School metro station (S/E).
