Description of the walk

Start: Milgarholm car park. Grid ref NS 326 381. (W3W: gold.asleep.baking)

(S/E) Start at Milgarholm Park car park. Facing the football pitches make your way down the steps, turn right and start along the tarmac path West-North-West towards the River Irvine.

(1) After 75m, at the junction by the bridge underpass take the left path and continue on South with the river on your right-hand side.

(2) At the next junction, keep right (South-West) following the river on your right-hand side.

(3) After 390m, at the crossroads/bridge continue straight ahead with the river still on your right-hand side (note that the River Irvine has now merged into the Annick Water and this is the river you are now adjacent to).

(4) Keep walking and at the junction keep right and continue straight ahead with the river still on your right-hand side.

(5) At the junction, just before the bridge, take the left path up the slope and away from the river. Continue on this path until you return back to the car park where you started.(S/E)

Transport: Irvine train station is 1.3 miles from the starting point. Buses stop along the A737 (near Sainsbury supermarket) approx 0.5 miles from the start point.

Facilities: The nearest facilities are at Sainbury supermarket approx 0.5 miles from the starting point (for opening times see here). There are plenty of seating opportunities along the route.

Terrain: The paths are in very good condition with mainly smooth tarmac surfaces.

Dog policy: This is a great site for dog walkers.

In the nearby area

There are community football pitches.

This is a popular site for angling (Permits are available from Irvine Angling Club (tel 01294 273381).

This route is suitable for walking and cycling and provides access to the Irvine and Kilwinning New Town Trail

Wildlife can be viewed along the River Irvine and Annick Water.
