Description der Wandertour

Start: Caldons - Loch Trool Trail car park (DG8 6SS) Grid ref. NX 396 790

(S/E) From the car park, take the path that cross the river (South-East) then continue straight to find the Southern Upland Way.

(1) At the intersection of paths take left, then right and directly left always following the sign of the Southern Upland Way. Continue on the Southern Upland Way always following the shore of Loch Trool on your left-hand side until reaching a river (around 3.8 Km or so).

(2) Cross the river and take left (leaving the Southern Upland Way on your right). Continue straight until reaching an intersection of paths.

(3) Take left and continue straight until a bridge. Cross the river and continue straight on this path until reaching Buchan Bridge.

(4) Pass the bridge and continue straight on the forest track. After a couple of meter you will find on your left Robert the Bruce memorial. Continue on this forest track for around 1.6 Km, until seeing a path on your left hand side going toward Kenmure Knowe.

(5) Take left toward Kenmure Knowe and continue on this path until reaching the car park (S/E)

Car park:1.5 miles past the Glen Trool visitor centre – Caldons car park just before the bridge, Newton Stewart, (DG8 6SU).

Dog friendly: Yes mainly forest tracks.

Note: There are several way-marked paths of different lengths. You mainly follow the Southern Upland Way sign.

Robert the Bruce memorial is situated along the shore of Loch Trool. Robert the Bruce defeated the English army of Sir Aymer of Valence in March 1307.
