Description der Wandertour

Start : Loch Doon Castle Car Park, East, Craigmalloch, Ayr (KA6 7QE). Grid ref. NX 483 949

(S/E) Exit the car park and head uphill (North) following the grass trail, up past the old sheep pens and onto the forest road. Cross the road and continue heading up, following the trail.

(1) Before stepping over a small water course, look left and you should see a faint trail heading for the trees. If you miss this, use the large wooden stab in the middle of the trail as a catching feature. The trail is about 20 metres before the stab.

(2) Follow the trail over a burn (bridged) and follow it back downhill (South-East) then it turns right (South-West) into the forest. Stay on the trail all through the forest then rises up nearer the end. Eventually, the trail arrives at another well kept track, around 4 feet wide and at a junction.

(3) The track goes left and straight on. Straight on takes you to a view point with a bench and no further. Going left, or right if returning from viewpoint will take you downhill and parallel with the forest road. There are 2 more benches just off the track on the way down.

(4) Eventually the track arrives at the road.

From here you can either go straight on and down toward the Carrick Lanes. Head for the bridge, turn left before crossing and follow the trail down to the waterfall. Return the same way.

Looking down the loch, just after where the grass track meets the road, there is a forest road branching off parallel to the grass track. Follow this all the way back to where you crossed it heading up. You will see the old sheep pens when you get nearer.

(5) Turn right and follow the trail back down to the car park. (S/E)
