(S/E) From the castle car park, exit the car park, turn left and follow the road past the cottages and the small wood on your left.
(1) After 1.1 Km, at the junction, take the turn to the left, downhill, cross the bridge and continue to follow the road going past Starr cottage which will appear on your left. Stay on this road, ignoring roads branching off to the right.
(2) After crossing the bridge over the Gala lane, at the next junction take the road going right and continue South-West to follow slightly uphill.
(3) Take the first road on your left, (not marked on any OS maps) heading uphill and turning back on itself. Pass a quarry on your right, stay on this road, ignoring the road on the right further on. You will see a small turn around area once near the site. Eventually you will arrive at the Loch Head burn.
At present the trees stop here on your right hand side. Very prominent burn with a dry stone dyke on the right hand side of the road as the road straightens out. Here you will see, to your front a sign with an arrow pointing towards the old forwarder trail.
(4) Follow the tracks which cross a small stream then its easy going. Follow the direction of next marker which can be seen from the sign at the road round to the left. Continue on this track till it ends, turn right and the cairn and wreckage is about 20 metres away, engine a further 15 metres past cairn.
(5) Return following the same route. (S/E)
