Description
Start : Stinchar Bridge car park, (KA19 7NT) Grid ref. NX 396 957, just off the Forest Drive and Straiton to Glentrool Rd.
(D/A) Exit the carpark and turn right, then left (South) at the road. Follow the road until the second passing place, ignore the road for timber stacking. The first passing place has a small Lochan to its front.
(1) At the passing place, pickup the trail, (always boggy here) and follow to the burn.
(2) Cross the burn and continue to follow the path (South-South-East). It becomes a better path as the route climbs. The bottom section is always the worst part of this route.
(3) The first summit, Cairnadloch, 478 m has a cairn just to the right of the path. Continue to follow the trail, coming to an old fence, again it can be marshy here in wet conditions but easily passed with care.
(4) The second summit, Caerloch Dhu 659 m also has a cairn. On approaching the small lochan, keep to the left of the trail, another area that can be marshy, and follow up the steep incline onto Shalloch on Minnoch.
(5) A cairn will appear near the summit, with Trig point 100 metres after. Shelter at trig point, 768 m. The edge of the Maidens bed (steep drop) can be reached 400 metres after the trig point walking due East. There is also a small cairn here to mark 775 M. The view takes in the valley below and "The Awful Hand" can be seen to the right. Tunskeen bothy, Lochs Riecawr and Macaterick below. Return the same route. (D/A)

An astonishingly beautiful short walk through a deep wooded glen following the River Doon as it begins it’s journey between Loch Doon and the Firth of Clyde at Doonfoot, Ayr. Expect waterfalls a-plenty! Form a loop by returning to the start via the hill path. The footpaths are uneven and narrow in places and you can expect boggy conditions on the high path. Be sure to take a camera as there are MANY photo opportunities!
