Departure from the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
(S/E) Head south along the Ill River on the HerrenWasser Trail. Follow the banks of the Ill to the Bruche Canal.
(1) Turn left onto the Flassmatt footbridge over the Bruche Canal and you will soon reach the Bruche River.
(2) Enjoy the view from the wooden footbridge over the Bruche (ducks, swans, cormorants, etc.) then continue along Quai du Murhof and Quai de Traenheim along the banks of the Ill.
(3) Leave the banks of the Ill and continue along the Piste de Traenheim. Pass under the power lines and continue along Rue des Champs, then Rue de la Plage. At the roundabout, continue along Rue du Rivage, cross Rue de l'Île des Pêcheurs and take the cycle path opposite that runs alongside the Ill. You will reach the Natura Parc car park.
(4) Immediately turn right into the forest via the Sentier de l'Ill. Pass under the motorway and continue to follow the Ill. At the sports grounds, turn left and cross the bridge to reach Île de la Niederbourg.
(5) After enjoying the view of the Illkirch Graffenstaden hydroelectric power station, continue across the other arm of the Ill. Turn right immediately and continue to follow the Ill more or less until you reach the Vill'A at the diversion canal.
(6) La Vill'A is a former boiler room that now hosts cultural events. Cross the canal footbridge, follow the canal on the right and then, just after the car park (on your left), cross the canal again.
Cross Île de la Muhlmatt, cross the Ill and turn left at the end of the bridge. At the roundabout, cross the Ill again and turn right immediately. Continue to the entrance to Parc Friedel.
(7) Follow Promenade du Girlenhirch, then the street of the same name.
(8) Cross Route d'Eschau and, after a left-right turn, take the cycle path. At Rue des Charmilles, turn right and then cross Route du Fort Ulrich.
(9) At the fort, continue along the Rhône-Rhine Canal to reach Route du Fort Ulrich.
If you feel like it, you can walk around Fort Ulrich.
(10) Turn left twice, cross the canal and rejoin the cycle path. At Route de la Schafhardt, continue left. Enter the forest and you will reach a three-way junction.
(11) Turn left onto Sentier de la Faisanderie. Be careful! This path branches off to the left about 600 metres further on.
(12) Turn right and follow the Krittermattepfad sign. You will reach a road.
(13) Follow the road to the right for a few metres, then take the first path on the left. Continue north through the forest until you reach a stream. Continue to the right and at the next junction, turn right again. Facing the Tortu Rhine, turn left. Cross it at Route de la Faisanderie and immediately turn left onto Rue de la Canzau. Pass the four-way intersection and reach the next street on the left.
(14) Turn left onto Rue des Linottes. Take the 90° right turn and then follow a path on the left a few metres further on. Reach the Rhin Tortu and follow it to the entrance to Schulmeister Park.
(15) Enter Schulmeister Park through the barrier for motor vehicles on your left.
(16) After leaving Schulmeister Park, turn right onto the first bridge, then immediately left. Cross Rue du Général Offenstein, then the bridge over the Tortu River, and turn left onto Rue Staedel. Continue following the river to the Meinau Stadium.
(17) At the Stade de la Meinau, turn right and cross the Rhin Tortu, then walk alongside the training grounds. Pass under the railway line and immediately turn left onto Rue de la Charité.
At the end, first turn right then left onto Rue Simonis. Cross Rue Jules Rathgeber and then turn left onto Route du Polygone.
(18) Cross the boulevard and continue straight ahead on Route de Vienne for a few metres. Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and follow the path as it continues. Go around the hospital grounds on the right and join Parc du Heyritz.
(19) The floating footbridge is closed to cyclists, so take Chemin du Lohmühle. Turn right before the school, cross the canal and turn left onto Quai Louis Pasteur.
(20) Keep left on the cycle path that passes under the bridges and follows the Ill.
(21) At the Vauban passage, dismount and cross, then join the Vauban Dam Bridge over the Ill (S/E).
