The sheep of Bramefaim

A walk perfectly suited to Nordic walking, along the beautiful paths of the Coursages communal lands. Certain landscapes—vast pastures bordered by fir trees, a shepherd, his sheep and his dogs (yes, really)—inevitably bring to mind a painting from the Barbizon School.

Description of the walk

Car park: Place Saint-Jean Baptiste in Coursages, in the small square in front of the chapel.

(S/E) With your back to the chapel, follow the small street for 50m, cross Route de Viersat, first turn left then right, and take Chemin des Communaux on the right (signposted). Continue straight on along the uphill track, ignoring the paths to the left and right, until you reach a large crossroads.

(1) At the crossroads, go straight ahead and enter the Coursages communal woods. Continue straight on until you reach the edge of the woods.

(2) Take the path leading down to the left at the edge of the woods and follow it to the end.

(3) At the end of the path, turn left onto the lovely path climbing between woodland and pasture until you reach a wide sandy track.

(4) Take this track to the right until you reach a major crossroads (Carrefour des moutons).

(5) At the junction, continue straight ahead. 100m further on, ignore the path that veers slightly to the left and continue until you reach a tarmac road.

(6) Immediately turn left, in front of the house, onto the wide path leading downhill. Pass the Bramefaim farm on your right and continue to the bottom of the descent.

(7) At the bottom of the descent, take the wide track leading uphill, which branches off to the left in a hairpin bend. Continue to the sheep crossroads.

(5) Turn right onto the sandy track you took on the way there.

(4) Leave the path you took on the way there on your left and continue straight on to the Croix des Oyardoux.

(8) In front of the cross, turn sharply right onto the stony track. Continue until you come to a lovely path leading off to the left.

(9) Take the path that leads you back towards Coursages.

(10) After the final short but steep climb leading to the village of La Côte, turn left onto the Chemin des Hirondelles and continue to the end. Turn right, cross the Route de Viersat and head for the finish (S/E).

A very pleasant route with beautiful scenery. The signposting is spot on.
Anyone can do it, even young children. It isn’t steep.
You’ll just need to adapt the route for the ‘little ones’ depending on their age, as the full route is 10 km long.
It’s a very pleasant walk in spring and autumn; in summer, there are plenty of spots sheltered from the sun, but plenty of others where you can get quite hot, and I have three dogs who don’t like high temperatures.
The walk takes just over 2½ hours if you take your time

In short, a lovely walk. Thanks, Visio Rando 😁

Yes, just two short hours and a fall... But nothing serious

A leisurely hike; the scenery is a bit dull after having just been on hikes in Auvergne.
