At the junction of the D929 road from Lannemezan via Saint-Lary-Soulan and the Lac de l'Oule road, you will find a small car park which is the starting point.
(S/E) Take the dirt road that branches off to the right, running alongside the Neste Valley, then quickly winds its way up to the dam.
(1) 350 metres from the dam, leave the road and turn left onto a beautiful path that will take you to the left of the dam. Continue straight on this path, which runs along the left bank of Lac de l'Oule, until you reach the first hut (Cabane de l'Oule). Continue to the right, cross a small bridge and you will reach a second hut (Cabane de la Lude - 1,816m).
(2) Behind this hut, take the path on the left. Climb this path, keeping left at each intersection and following the Port-Bielh stream until you reach a shelter of the same name on the banks of Laquet de Coste Oueillère (2105m).
(3) Continue climbing along the path to the right of the Port-Bielh shelter, keeping to the right until you reach a shelter at the Laquets de Port-Bielh (2,217 m).
(4) Take the path that starts furthest to the right of the shelter under one of the lakes. It will take you to the two Lacs de Bastanet (2,193m).
(5) At the second lake, continue climbing slightly for 800m until you reach the heights of Lac Supérieur de Bastan (2260m). Turn right and keep right at the next two junctions to reach the Bastan refuge (2223m).
(6) Leave the refuge on your left and continue along the slightly descending path, passing between the Middle Bastan Lakes (2210m). Continue descending to the last two small lakes and go around them on the left (2188m).
(7) Continue along the gently descending path, keeping to the right until you reach a fork at Lac Inférieur de Bastan (2105m).
(8) Keep to the right and walk along the lake. Continue downhill, keeping to the right at each fork and passing under the Bastan hut (2000m) on your right, until you reach a crossroads.
(9) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead and join the right bank of Lac de l'Oule.
(10) Turn left and follow the lake until you pass under the Lac chairlift, then turn right towards the refuge chalet.
(11) Pass to the left of the Chalet-Refuge de l'Oule and take the road that descends under the dam. You will return to the intersection you passed at the start of the hike.
(1) Follow the road to the car park (S/E).
