Park in the car park at Étréchy cemetery. The station is a few hundred metres away (RER C).
(S/E) Walk alongside the cemetery and, via an easy climb due north, reach the top where there is a lovely panoramic view of the valley.
Turn left onto a well-marked country lane and arrive at a monument with a calvary and a statue of the Virgin Mary on the Saint Martin hill. Below, you can see a small vineyard harvested and vinified by a local brotherhood, Saint-Vincent.
(1) Then turn right until you reach the crossroads, cross it ignoring the paths on the right and continue along the plateau on the lovely farm track, passing under power lines until you reach a road.
(2) Turn left onto this tarmac road towards Chauffour-lès-Étréchy. When you reach the D148 (take care), turn left and go round the church and cemetery at Chauffour. Follow the main road for about 200 m along a narrow pavement. Take care when crossing towards the woods.
(3) The entrance to the path below the road is inconspicuous on the right-hand side of the road. The first few metres are slippery in wet weather; work was underway on the day I visited. Then follow the valley floor along a lovely shaded path until you reach a flight of steps on the left.
(4) Climb these steps, cross the D148 again with care and arrive at a geological site with numerous information boards. Stairs lead up to a viewpoint. You then need to go back down the stairs to the valley floor path and take it to the left. Return to the “town” keeping in the same direction via Chemin de Martineau, then Route du Bas Vaucelas, then Route de Chauffour to No. 27.
(5) Opposite No. 27, to the left of the road, a small path branches off between two gardens. Take this path and return to the starting point via the Sente de la Folie, Boulevard Saint-Vincent and Rue de l’Égalité towards the cemetery (S/E).
