(S) On leaving Étampes station (RER line C), on the town side, turn right onto Boulevard Henri IV. Take the footbridge to cross the railway line and follow the path on the right (Promenade de la Guinette).
(1) Go around the Tour de la Guinnette on the right and enjoy the view of the town. Follow the path westwards and exit Parc de la Guinette. At the roundabout, turn left onto Rue du Pont Saint-Jean (yellow markings). At the fork, continue straight ahead (still following the yellow markings) and follow Avenue Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire to a roundabout.
(2) Then turn right onto Avenue de l'Atlantique and ignore Allée du Sirocco immediately on your right. Leave Rue du Libeccio on your right and turn right onto Rue Julien Pranville, then left onto Rue Paul Vachet. At the end of this street, turn left.
(3) At the crossroads immediately ahead, leave the yellow markings and turn left down Rue des Lys.
(4) At the corner of the cemetery, turn right onto Chemin de l'Écorchoir (GR®111B, red and white markings).
(5) At the crossroads, turn left onto Chemin de la Roche du Temple and ignore the two paths on the left. Further on, this path narrows: for this route through undergrowth and coppice, follow theGR® markings carefully. After 300m to 400m (elevation 124), theGR® turns sharply left and takes you back down into the valley.
(6) When you reach a tarmac road, cross it and leave theGR®. Take the bridge over the Louette and turn right (yellow markings). Cross the hamlet of Valnay and arrive at the bridge over the Chalouette.
(7) Turn left (do not cross the bridge) and follow the river (yellow markings). Further on, leave the Chalouette and cross the Louette again. Follow the Chemin du Moulin à Tan to the right and walk along the river. Pass the pumping station, where the path gives way to tarmac. At the end of the street, turn right onto Rue de Chauffour and pass under the railway bridge.
(8) Turn right immediately into a passageway that continues into Rue Phileas Vassal. As you cross the bridge over the Louette, admire the old mills. At the fork, continue along Rue Philéas Vassal on the left. At the intersection with Rue Saint-Martin, turn right and then immediately left into Rue du Cimetière. Leave Rue Jacques Boulas on your left and walk past the bell tower of Saint-Martin Church.
(9) Take the alley on the left that crosses the square in front of the church. At the end, take Rue du Paradis and then immediately after, at the fork, turn right onto Rue de la Digue. Continue along Rue de la Digue. Follow this street, ignoring the perpendicular alleys, and pass under the railway bridge. Then turn left onto Rue Salvador Allende and follow the path on the left-hand side that leads to Saint-Martin d'Étampes station (E).
