The hillsides of the Vézère river at the start of Voutezac

A lovely route that takes you from the Saillant Chapel to the Chartroulle Chapel, discovering one of the rare vineyards in Corrèze, on the slopes of the Vézère in the commune of Allassac. A few steep slopes and paths that can be muddy in the rainy season, but a beautiful panorama.

Description of the walk

Park next to the old Saillant bridge (in the commune of Voutezac).

(S/E) Walk away from the river to visit the Saillant Chapel, which contains recently restored stained glass windows by Marc Chagall. Retrace your steps.

(S) Cross the bridge over the Vézère.

(1) At the first crossroads, go straight on towards Allassac.

(2) About 200 metres further on, turn left onto Chemin du Grand Cantalou. The yellow "Chemin des vignes" markings will now serve as a guide throughout the walk.

(3) At the top of the path, in La Pialeporchie, first turn right then left to join Chemin de la Chartroulle. At the T-junction, turn left and you will immediately come to a road.

(4) Follow the road to the right and take the tunnel under the railway line. On the other side, turn right, still following the yellow markings.

(5) At the fork, keep right. Walk along the bottom of the vineyards, then turn left to climb steeply through the vineyards.

(6) Turn right and continue along the hillside. At the T-junction (elevation 266), turn left and climb. At the fork, keep left and climb until you reach the D9.

(7) Follow the road to the left and enter La Chartroulle.

(8) In the village, take the road on the left towards the chapel. Pass in front of the chapel and take the path that goes downhill. Turn right and walk along the top of the vineyards. Then go downhill and return to the junction you took earlier.

(5) Follow the same route back and pass under the railway line again.

(4) On the other side, turn right. Cross a stream, then first turn left then right to cross the Saillant Vieux. (Construction work is underway until spring 2026, so you will need to go around it via the raised garden on the left-hand side, then take the Valène pass.)

(9) Turn left until you reach the crossroads you took at the very beginning of the hike.

(1) Turn right, cross the Vézère and you will immediately find the car park (S/E).
